The griddle won't stay up on my old Resolute III when I lean it against the stovepipe (top-exit). It's perfectly vertical, whereas on my previous stove, Intrepid II, it must have been able to lean slightly backward. The slightest vibration while I'm loading wood and it comes slamming down. I'm wondering if the Resolute's flue collar is farther forward than the Intrepid's so that the griddle can't lean back against it? The stovepipe doesn't appear to be slanting forward. I've been careful to keep the spring-y handle out of the way. I wonder if I could put a wire around the stovepipe and somehow hook the griddle to it ... sounds like a pain. So I've been trying to load wood with one hand. Anyone else notice this? Thanks.

You're not trying to open the griddle with the damper in horizontal position, are you. My Vig has something that prevents the griddle from opening. Otherwise, you get a house full of smoke.
how about a brick on top of the stove next to the opening but touching the griddle to keep it back while you load????
