i wanted an insert that stuck out a bit but the installed toldme noway because i was 2 inches short of the 16inch clearance needed. Every manufacturer shows stoves sitting on hearths within a few inches of the edge. Really drives me crazy. I dont want to rip up my hardwood to extend it anyfurther so i had to go flush mount

NFPA-211 says you MUST have 16" from the stove glass to the front edge of the hearth MINIMUM.
No getting around that. Your putting FIRE in your home. Safety is the first concern you should address.

If you have a raised hearth buying a hearth extension would solve your problem.

What Grisu said. My understanding is that the 16" clearance is measured diagonally to the combustible floor, so the higher up your stove is, the less the extension is needed. Still, I did take up some hardwood and lay some stone flush with the floor on mine. Just paranoid about fire.

There have been threads on this forum before about the fake and 'not to code' pictures on the glossy brochures. It's just like the gorgeous resort in the Caribbean that turns out to be totally photoshopped.

A hearth can be extended, sometimes easily. Post a picture of the current hearth so that we can see if there are any options.
