New Harman Circuit Board

Been toying with the idea of upgrading the circuit board and ESP on my 2008 Harman Accentra insert. Called Harman and was told that no board upgrade is available. OK so I'm a cynic. Does anyone here know if this is really the case? My ESP wires are white which tells me it's obsolete and if I ever had to replace it I'd need a new board. True?
 
...subscribing as I have an older FS accentra with white ESP wires. Wondering what parts I need to lay in before I cant get them....
 
Well they may be talking semantics, newer "revision" control boards are available for purchase but it is the "same" board just tweaked. I'd say its kinda an upgrade because the newest boards do slightly help the stove light faster, have better run/shutdown logic, allow for the auto shutdown and relight when using a UPS and commercial power goes out, allow for better speed control of distribution blower, and allow for the use of either red or black/white esp's. the newer red ESP's are more accurate at reading the temperature I believe.
 
Dont waste your money. U have the "black esp". just has white leads at the end. New board is more universal than old board, it will fit many different stoves. You can still get black esp.
 
the newer board i s slightly different, but not really an upgrade. no "upgrade" to the ESP. the red/ black, doesn't really matter which you have as long as your board knows which one you have. no worries.

Hello
I put new boards in my 10 and 12 yo upgraded P61a-2 stoves. I noticed a few differences. Better and finer heat adjustment. The room blower will shut off to help control the temperature. I still have the old analog black ESP probes and I think the new digital red probes are more accurate and want to try them also.

My blower also shuts down and stove goes into a real short feed cycle. If it keeps up it shuts feed down altogether, then picks it back up, usually w/o the igniter powering up.

Interesting, I just bought a 52i and when we had a short power outage the other night, the stove did not start up until I manually turned it off, then on again. Last week, it did start up again without help when I forgot to unplug it before firing up a generator during another outage over Thansgiving.
 
My dealer told me Harman has new supplier for circuit boards and some of them have been tweaked a little or a lot such as for P38

Hmm well if you have the stove plugged into the battery back up side of one of the two uninterruptible power supplies or UPS recommended by harman and your control board is set to the correct default dip switch setting for your stove from the factory it should be turning off all motors on loss of commercial power and pulsing on and off the combustion blower, to clear the smoke from the stove and keep it out of the house. when commercial power returns and it goes off the battery power the control board should look at the esp temp to determine whether it needs to go through an ignition cycle or if there is still a fire present and it can simply start feeding pellets.

However with just being plugged into a standard outlet with no UPS then none of this is going to happen and normally you do have to manually turn it to off and ten back on to get it to relight.

have the same stove for about 10 yrs, just upgraded both and stove is running better than new. replacement was due to changing the exhaust fan without unplugging stove, shorted stove and blew 6amp fuse. after replacing fuse ($6-7.00 fuse at stove dealer,-$ 1.30 at hd and lowes and .80 cents at radio shack! for the same fuse). anyways, after replacing fuse exhaust fan would start when I re-plugged , could not shut off, knobs had no effect. auger and other fan worked on test, but no affect on exhaust blower. reached out to 2 dealers, both said it was circuit board, they wanted 80.00 /160.00 just for a service call, parts not included. found a replacement board for 170, that had the pins, comes with instructions on what to set the pins at (diagram is inaccurate, pins are like the old pins seen in the sears garage door openers- old board had no pinns). new board at first, acted the same way ,fan ran all the time. next I pulled out my white wire esp and replaced with a black wire esp, no help but then I did 2 things and struck gold. 1st, I changed #5 pin to "off- down position" and I screwed in the new esp. (I was just swapping wires with new/old esp's, my "GUESS" IS THE SCREW THAT HOLDS IN THE ESP ALSO GROUNDS IT. cant believe the btu's I am getting. do not know if it was the combination of events or a either/all that did the fix, but am a happy camper.

btw, amazon has a vender that can rebuild the circuitboards, sent out my old board to have it checked out (40.00)and am keeping it as a backup. if you want more info, get back to me.

ps, am very unhappy with the venders in this pellet industry, they are gorging us with their prices, same replacement parts prices vary by more than 100. dollars, between venders and some parts can be had without a stove vender
a pellet dealer in newhampshire is charging 390/ton claiming pellets are going to 400 a ton because they are being exported to Europe and not enough pellet mills( googled prices in Europe and pellets are 330.00 for 2150 lbs and their are hundreds of pellet mills)

we should have a forum whereas we find a decent dealer or manufacturer (fasco fans etc) , we post their part/price and we boycott the used car dealer mentalities. they believe they have us in a barrel and its time to turn the tide! (i.e. .80cent part plus 9.00 shipping,duh!)

You let you fingers do the walking! Let your dollars do the talking. A bit of online research can save major $$$ and probably keep the repairman from invading your home. Not that all of us who do repairs use anywhere near the strong arm tactics of the IRS.:)
