Just got off the phone with a supplier of Bio-Vent exhaust. I have ordered the adapter that is supposed to fit the Ecoteck stove. The OD is approximately 3-3/8" - they sent me an adapter that is 3" ID.

Now they are telling me that there is a start collar purportedly on the Ravelli stoves. There was no "collar" on the Elena Air purchased from Northland ... and there was an appliance adapter. Has Ravelli changed their set-up or has BDM? or both?

Spent more in shipping than the part is worth at this point and getting very frustrated.

Guess I should clarify - ordered the first part, received that 3" ID. Sent that one back (approximately $20 shipping), paid for a new one and shipping again ($17.82 FedEx), still the same 3" ID, apparently no credit yet for the returned part. I guess I'm supposed to feel good that they didn't charge me a restocking fee  I sent an email with a photo of the original adapter and the exhaust of the Ecoteck framed by a measuring tape before they shipped out the second one... How tough is this?

Spoke to the manufacturer - they are sending me the appropriate one free of charge. Big thank you to Bernard Dalsin! Still not the point, I spoke to the production manager Chris and he knew right away it was a larger diameter. Promised he would double check before it was sent out. I don't expect to get it free - obviously as I've now paid for two of them - I just want the right part:confused:

The exhaust pipe is 80mm outside diameter. There are only one or two adapters made to fit this stove.

You can make one from a male-to-male 3-inch-ID automotive exhaust pipe connector (American Auto Accessories model 17562) : the inside diameter of one end has to be ground about a mm larger to fit over the Ecoteck exhaust pipe. That was what I was doing until I got an adapter from Northland, after they forgot to ship it with the stove.

Do you have a "start collar" on your exhaust? Apparently Ravellis have one.... Implied this is why the adapter didn't fit...

I know that Biovent makes an adapter that does fit - have one on my Elena Air - and the supplier was supposed to send me one (appropriate part # first time/not appropriate part, second time they changed the # and sent me the same part they sent me the first time). BDM knew right away what I was taking about...

Yes, the "start-collar" is what Northland eventually sent me, which fits between the 80mm stove exhaust pipe, and the Simpson Duravent appliance adapter.

FWIW - I recently acquired a Laura stove and had the same issue in that the Duravent appliance adapter was slightly smaller diameter than the outlet on the Ravelli. As a temporary fix, I drilled out the rivets on the appliance adapter and separated the inner and outer pipes. I then widened the inner pipe to fit over the exhaust with still enough material to overlap. Then riveted the adapter together back with the larger opening. When I connected the appliance adapter to the stove I used a SS Hose clamp to secure the two snugly. It is working fine, just a thought.
Enclosing a couple of pictures..

Keep_warm, thanks for the suggestion and the pics. Will keep it on stand-by until I see what I get from BDM. Supposed to get shipped today from Farmington, MN so shouldn't take too long to get here. Maybe I'm under the wrong impression that an appliance adapter is supposed to compensate for exhaust outlet variances so they mate to standardized pipe ... we'll see.

Sorry for the rant yesterday ... just a bad day all around starting with back spasms when I bent down to tie my boots to take the dog out and went down-hill from there.

part number for the Ecoteck Adapter for BDM is 72080003ETB. Diameter is just over 3.25" for the Ravelli adapter. Gotta love that cast aluminum housings on these European stoves!

Lake Girl... I believe I'd have contacted a local tin knocker and had him fabricate one for you. Probably would have been quicker and less dramatic.

Thanks Steve but that was the number on the first order - I explained it couldn't be the right adapter they sent me because of the ID.

As to the drama, Sidecar, I was trying to avoid it by ordering the appropriate part but they didn't send me the right one and they don't seem to get it. The rest of the order was fine ...

Glad you did get the right part. From the picture, I'd say you have the unit pretty well dismantled.... I have a sheet metal program for our cnc plasma table that will generate all sorts of HVAC parts from galv sheet that I never use. It's dusty software foir me....

.We had a batch of Ecoteck/Ravelli adapters made. Stainless steel, reduces to 3" like most stoves. Fits Dura Vent perfectly. We have a few extras if anyone has a need.

Thanks lowcostheat ... got the part I needed from the manufacturer of BioVent, BDM. The supplier I ordered from will take back the second wrong part they sent me but will not credit me any shipping. Their mistake in sending me the wrong part but not willing to make it right. Pondering my options ...

Did you pay with a Credit Card? May have recourse in the charges. Open a complaint with card on issue. Save the trail of replies on their screw up.

I had called the Credit Card earlier ... wouldn't have been able to do anything until Monday anyway. 3 calls now to speak to the owner, finally got him today and said he would check into it. I have sent his customer service rep emails with photos of what I have received both times with the final photo being the part they sent me next to the one the manufacturer sent (Edit along with the photo of the box with the original part number next to the part received). Service rep said no to reimbursement of shipping - will see what owner has to say. Don't think the service rep showed him the photos I sent...

Here's the scoundrel causing all this trouble:mad: He's the one on the right!

where did you eventually get the right adapter? We bought a used ecotech good condition, I went and bought Selkirk pipe before I realized I needed a hard to find adapter to connect from the stove. So question is where do I get adapter and do I need Dura vent pipe.
Thanks

Welcome to the forum! :) Stove didn't have the adapter? Can you return the Selkirk if it doesn't work with the adapter you get?

Not sure how well the BioVent or Duravent mate to Selkirk ... BioVent is manufactured in Minnesota. Northland Distributing, who was the importer for the Ecoteck/Ravellis and no longer exists, was located in International Falls and that is what they carried. Greentech Manufacturing, a separate division, is still there but not sure if they carry the BioVent.

I originally ordered the adapter from Woodman Parts Plus and will never order from them again because of the above mess - between extra postage to return 2 parts, long distance phone calls, and the frustration factor - they are not a reliable source to me.

Called the Biovent manufacturer direct to confirm that they still manufactured the part and I had the right part #, told them of the difficulty with Woodman Parts Plus, they sent me the right part (to US address) for free! BDM (Bernard Dalsin Manufacturing) went beyond my expectations of customer service:cool: Could call BDM to find out nearest supplier location. Woodman Parts Plus wouldn't cover the extra costs associated with their screw-up.

Thanks for the reply, I did not get an adapter with the stove, not sure what previous owner did with it. I did check with Northland or rather Green tech and they no longer carry any pipe or parts, I thought Falls lumber might have something, but they carry a different line of vent to Selkirk. I am not finding much info on the adapter needed, which would be the one you ultimately received. I am going to see if I can return the pipe and go with the same dealer you got the part from.
Thanks
