So I was home for the weekend . I've been working outside in the rain and snow, hauling equipment, and I've been looking forward to soaking my bones and my house with some wood heat. I've had the PH for about a year, and usually burn a small fire, turning on the cat after the stove pipe reaches 250 , and turning down the air so that I just see flames

This weekend I thought let's try something new. After the first bed of coals, I filled the stove, kept the air on until the logs lit, and then turned the cat on (closed the bypass) , waited a bit till splits were chared, and tamped the air down all the way. In this mode there are no flames visible, though the bottom coals glowed red. Worked just fine, and left a bed of coals to start over in the morning.

This mode of operation really extends the burn time. The only downside is it's not half as much fun wattching black logs as it is watching the fire cavort

I got over 14 hours last night on 2/3rd load with the air all the way down....a great amount of coals to start a new fire. If I leave the air at 1/4 inch or 1/2 inch from closed, I will only get about 9 hours.

Anxiously awaiting my PH. Should be shipping within 2 weeks hopefully.

I absolutely love my Progress Hybrid. It is an amazing woodstove. I would not advise using it though in a rental house situation. Too difficult to maintain the catalytic combustor if someone does not know how to use it.

This is pretty much my experience also. I can still have a decent bed of coals for reloading after 16 hours, but not all that much heat after 14 hours. The stove is an awesome performer and a beautiful looking piece of heating equipment. And I have never loaded the stove to full capacity !
