We see from time to time the request for help with an inoperative control board on an older stove and the supplies of factory boards have dried up.

I have both my Whitfields running on my own control systems.

The temp safeties as well as pressure and door safeties are all intact, as are the power drop (outage) safeties.

My stoves use the factory over temp and burn back snap switches to interrupt the AC power in the event of an issue.

The actual operation of the stove is very simple, with a variable time controller to adjust the BURN time (Feed motor off)

The feed motor on time is preset to a range of between 1.2 to 2 seconds and is generally not adjustable by the end user.

The burn time is controllable from approx 1.5 seconds (HIGH HEAT) to 10 seconds (LOW HEAT)

Depending on the stoves original design there is usually a low temp bypass installed that will allow the stove to run for approx 15-20 minutes until the low temp snap switch has connected (Stove up to temp)

These circuits are used to prevent the unit from feeding if the fire goes out or does not stay burning, and will usually shut the entire unit down.

Some stoves did not use this setup though.

I recently discovered a company that makes a wide variety of solid state cube timers/relays

This is Infitec

This company can supply the needed parts to fulfill the needs of retrofitting an older stove.

The HSS 5 B 2 5B One shot timer can be used with a time rating of 30 minutes and the delay set to external pins for a pot (Leave pot off) and when the reset button is pushed the timer locks in until the power fails or is unplugged and will continue to feed power to the stove.

This same timer can be used as a start up timer to power around the low temp switch, by simply adding a resistor across the res terminals and adjusting to the desired time to allow LOW TEMP snap to engage.

This serves as a latchout relay and will keep the stove from restarting in the event of a power outage.

The HTR 5 B 0D 1 1A 2A relay timer will function as the main on/off timer.
The on time (feeding) can be adjusted with an on board pot from .1 to 3 seconds. (2 is nominal)

The off time (Heat selection) can be adjusted from .5 to 15 seconds using a remote panel mounted pot.

These are readily available and real durable.

The are a 2" X 2" cube with a single screw mounting.
The have standard spade connectors.

A very inexpensive remedy for a dead stove.

There are several sources for good quality fan speed adjusters (Triacs) to control the room air fan speed.

I have set up my own controllers that give me far more control than the factory equipment, all the while maintaining the original safety features.

I went one better and found some very nice stand alone enclosures to use as a control panel that I remote mounted.

I hope this material is useful to others

Can you give us an example or two, please? Some of us are running old Enviro stoves, and the replacement controller for that is a plastic-enclosed bit that when one reads the reviews for the Triac itself on Amazon, some of the comments are concerning. I found this one but I'd like to no what else might be available:http://www.grainger.com/product/DART-CONTROLS-AC-Motor-Speed-Control-5JJ60.

Thanks!

Thanks!

BTW, I have an old infitec timer I pulled out of my Enviro. It's the TRS51A11S2, 1 second on, .3-10 seconds off. It's marked "2.1 9.9" in sharpie, so maybe that's the actual delay time, who knows. Still works, so if you or anyone else who could use it just send me a PM and I'll mail it out, no charge.
