To post a pic from your PC; Click Upload a File next to the "Post Reply" button and choose the picture from the file it is in to post. It should load and place file at bottom of page under your posting box. Place courser where you want the picture in post. Always choose thumbnail. It should put it in your post box.

Reconditioning is like any other steel plate stove.Straightforward and much easier than cast iron.
Where sand blasting is not feasible or possible a wire wheel in drill or angle grinder works well. A knotted cup brush is the most aggressive type wheel depending on surface rust.
Remove door to refinish stove body;
Wire wheel and sand stove body as necessary. Including steel door seal channel.
Wipe entire stove with lacquer thinner before painting with high temperature paint. You should have a drop down clean-out door under and behind ash fender to clean ash from air intake that leads to pedestal. (under flapper) Some use one 1/4 -20 stud in the center, other will have two on ends. They should have wing nuts to remove and open for cleaning while in operation without tools. There should also be a screen over the air intake slot on stove bottom directly behind doors. If missing or broken, a piece of mason type steel lath makes a good screen material. Original is welded in place, I drill and tap for machine screws to attach new. This also makes it replaceable. This prevents any wood pieces or debris from falling into air intake jamming air intake flap.
Stove Bright Satin Black gives the closest to original color and best durability. Deep pits can be filled with brushable high temp paint if necessary. Allow some to sit and thicken, brush across pits and sand smooth before final spray coat. Paint should be burned off outside when possible with a couple pieces of stove pipe attached to fully cure paint and avoid odor indoors.
Door;
If the door plating is good, stay away from the door entirely with the wire wheel. The entire door is plated on all stoves that have a plated door. Clean with lacquer thinner before painting, paint and allow to air dry. Wipe the upper polished surface with mineral spirits to remove unwanted paint. Polish the upper plated surface with metal polish made for brass, nickel, gold, silver....... Same for draft caps. If brass plated door, it may have solid brass caps. They are thick and heavy compared to aluminum caps. Clean with thinner, paint entire cap and wipe edges with mineral spirits like you do the raised portion of door to remove fresh paint from edges only. Polish edges. Original cap (on brass plated stove) would look like this before and after paint;
Wire wheel hinge pins if magnetic steel and paint heads. Polish if brass or nickel plate. Grease with anti-seize or high temp grease.
Buff left draft cap threads with wire wheel and grease before threading into door. Keep these parts greased well through operation.
Without too much effort your stove should be good as new. It goes faster than you think with amazing results.
