"Hope ya all had a nice Christmas'
we had some Balmy weather past few days so it's been a Pellet Holiday in some areas around Eastern Pa.

Ok.. my latest OCD is with the Igniter compartment//
whenever the stove goes out or goes into Simmer mode as I call it, I take my 2" Paint brush and brush any ash or deposits that I just scraped into the ashpan.
[Not going to go to basement and get shop vac for 30 second maint as I do have limits..lol]
the downside to this it seems is that More than necessary amounts of ash get brushed over and into the burnpot holes and into the Igniter compartment..
The pain in the A.. is u have to remove the Harman ash pan out which in itself takes 1 nanosecond so your fingers can pull all that sandy ash out but,, there is ALWAYS an Inch of ash all along the handle and.,
Ash at the bottom of the ash pan outside floor Just waiting to dump onto your Pad or clean floor.
I have learned to Put a piece of Newspaper right up against the bottom door so that when I open it I can brush that ash at the bottom onto the newspaper before I pull out the Pan or into the ash pan from the handle.
keeping the Compartment cleaner seems to help my pellets Ignite faster.Along with hitting the Igniter with compressed air.. Harman OCD never ends.
[which is why I am more or less done with Chows and all the other Ashy stuff from HD and concentrating on less ashy pellets for next year. Although I did Score Douglas fir Blazers few weeks ago from of all places HD..

Well I'm with ya' brother. That's perhaps one of the reasons why I keep my stove running all the time. I only shutdown once or maybe twice a month. It's less stress on the igniter and less fussing. I scrape the pot whenever I drop a bag in the hopper and use the empty bag under the door to catch any stray ash.
 
I do the same thing to clean the heat exchanger in my stove (I do it every weekend) I picked up a piece of clear hose from lowes wrap a towel around it and plug it in the end of my vacuum.. Think I might whip up a nylon plug at my machine shop to make it easier.
 
You are talking about the compartment under the burnpot, right? If that's the case, I'm not sure why you have to take the ash pan out. About once a week or two I just wait for the stove to cool down, scrape the burn pot, take the ignitor cover off, and reach in and pull the ash out with my fingers. I have never needed to take the ash pan out for this, but my stove is older so maybe you have a different design.

living in Oregon I assume you can easily get those Douglas Fir Blazers.......
HD here had them for 250.00 ton recently... someone must have screwed up for Blazers to be back here for them low prices.

2013 model...in order to get my Index finger All the way up inside to the "top" sides of the compartment,, I have to remove the ashpan..
lower part is easy to reach.
 
I don't get much ash that far back- usually most of the ash build up in my ignitor compartment is close to the compartment cover. The further back I reach, the less ash there is on mine.

I agree, it is a good idea to keep that area clean. I don't obsess over it though. Every week of two seems to be fine for me.

ok... guess I'm not far off..
I clean the compartment 2x week..

Yep, Doug fir pellets are the only kind sold here. $199/ton.

when they came in here at HD in Pa, lot of people we're going for the Stove chows instead..
I assume they thought Blazers we're just another of HD's long line of Shoulder pellets...
Good for the savy pellet hunter.:cool:.
250.00 ton was an amazing price for pellets that traveled from The NorthWest..
don't think HD knew what they got and I wasn't going to tell them.

possibly but like some here, I am a young boomer retired..
Retired and Pellet stove owner = Lot of Tinkerin;hm and keepin eye on what Pellets HD get's in
and hoping it's Blazers Again...

You are the type of guy I need to work the counter at my store. How Close are you to Brookfield, Oh 44403? Pay sucks but the "fringe benefits" are awesome

Actually, I have several Aplications in for part time jobs including HD.. Ohio is a reach though..

Stumbled on my five trial bags at an HD in Carbon County. Heading downtown tomorrow (30 miles) so I'll see if the local HD there has them too.
