I considered it recently. I have an zone in my back yard and would be rather upset if I got picked for a different zone though.

I normally would, but i am working on clearing 50 acres for a guy in New Hartford. Will probably be a few years before i do the lottery again.

I've been lucky in 3 of the last 5 years in getting a wood lot through the program. Depending on the lot you get it can be a good deal or tons of work. I will be submitting an application, hoping not many others do so I have better chances.

You pick the zone so that is where you would get the wood from
I thought it was a lottery for every area not just the one you choose. Guess I should research myself rather then listen to others. Walking around the one by me it looks like a ton of work to get in there and get anything worth while. Maybe in next year or two I'll reconsider.

I actually never heard of this. I'm a newbie to wood burning. I am having a hard time finding wood to cut and split for free on CL or much anywhere else here in CT. Any tips? I think I will apply to this though.

Been there done that when I was much younger. Going to start getting log lengths instead. Pieces are just too small when you buy cord wood from others.

Good luck. BTW never had a problem getting picked.

I've considered log lengths to get ahead a few seasons. I have an interior lot and a tough driveway and don't think they could get close to deliver.

Sadly The amount of eab damage I've seen along the roads in new haven county recently leads me to believe there will be no shortage of firewood in the next 5 years
