Agreed, my experience with spruce is one summer in the sun, covered on top to keep the rain off and 12-15% MC at the end of the first summer.

I think the OP has enough wood put up to stop talking about face cords and start calculating full cords. Cold enough climate too... welcome to the full cord club big guy.

Nice idea for A simple rack. Are those two by sixes just sticking in the ends of the cinderblocks? I use pallets on the ground because I can get them free pretty easily but they rot after a couple of years usually. A few more racks like that and you will be in good shape. Just did a thread on the value of getting 3-5 years ahead. That wisdom gathered here certainly helped me out.

Good start Gps, I got some pine exactly like that, some split easy, some not so easy but once split it dries fast, keep at it and you'll be ahead in no time.

I'm not sure if it's worth it for you but you can save about 8 bucks per rack buy cutting your end pieces in half and going with 6 timbers instead of 8. Just food for thought.
Edit, i see you're using 2x4s for the runners so i should say it would save you 2 timbers in general. And the price was based on what i pay for the timbers here. I've been finding the timbers to only be a few cents more expensive than the treated 2x4s so i run all timbers on mine. They're great racks. And watch the ads in the spring, they usually go on sale, i think last year menards had them for about a buck a piece.

Yeah Cl also can find free wood sometimes..... Of course LOTs of people offer free wood if you cut down a tree.. They must think most of us woodburners have nothing else to do.
You Guy, have a nice stash going on firewood. I say never enough.
Heck I look around scrounging constantly even in hot summer. In the city we moved from we got all of our wood free... esp after storms, etc. Treecutters would not want to pay to haul it long distances... and people constantly put stuff out for yard waste pickup....
how do those timbers stay in place in those concrete blocks?
also curious why the long racks? when we trying doing long racks they have a tendency to fall or cave in...
Last real long rack I bought on special was 8 foot long. Hate it just wish they would have sold 4 footers. easier to manage etc. we have several real nice steel racks to.. we also built"cribs" I call them..
On our move here to in( money pit) house we brought the cribs one at a time in a utility trailer.from our former long time city home.
saw the ideas for the the wood cribs" in Family Handyman mazazine years ago...
We even was able to recycle that heavy green fiberglassroofing panels, from a teardown of an old big awning from a neighbors and FIL old patio cover. stuff is strong and last, too
otherwise we use pallets,too preferably 2 high supported where needed with brick, block, or what ever.. We use T posts too on the sides... lots we got used. Lots we buy new...
Course we have been burning sine the early 90,s.
so good going and keep eyes peeled for free stuff all year....
.Oh, heck even took apart old furniture (real wood kind...that city people left out for junk pickup or someone moving out of old apartment houses nearby.. Some people trash as I see as a treasure.....

Now here in newer place , kind of rural yet. not much stuff at the curb. Rare to find.... only been here 2 years now
Oh, also my(I call my Hubby)a Genius DIY , thought of putting pallets in front of the seasoning stacks, to keep them from falling the the Tposts...
