I bought an X27 back in the summer and had not used it. Today I split some 3yr old 18in diameter oak rounds. This thing went through them like a hot knife through butter. So if you are sitting on the fence about getting one. I definitely recommend. Minimal effort max return with this splitting ax

I've got one too and it is a sweet tool. I've got some notoriously tough species to split though, and I can say that there are some species that even the X27 doesn't tame. I keep my edge as sharp as a sharp pocket knife (w/ Lansky sharpening puck) and that helps a lot.

I got one of these axes for my birthday, and I'm very impressed with it. The only time it struggles is with nasty knots. Then a generic ugly old maul is better I think.

How is the feedback through the polymer handle? I generally prefer wood handles because all of the fiberglass/polymer handled axes and mauls I have used seem to deflect and disperse the energy of the swing or return all of the shock back through the handle.

Amazon had a few for $48 a month ago so I had one shipped even though I have a new 22 ton splitter. Now I have the best of both worlds.

I know what you mean and the x27 's hollow handle is better in the vib transmission department. It's light handle gives it good lot of force on the business end. I think I get better accuracy on my strikes.Main down side for me is if you get it stuck you waste all your energy trying to get it UN stuck
It's a very worthy tool tho

Cheers
