question for Englander Nc13 owners

Got it loaded for the night with cherry. Last time I managed to get around 5-6 hours. I was happy with that for cherry. Dont have any dry oak to try yet but will have 75% oak the next 2 years and cant wait. What do You Other Englander 13 Guys Get On your overnight burns? Also, any of you Madison guys give me the run down on that stove if possible

I don't have an Englander 13 but from all the threads I have read about them, 5-6 hours seems pretty good. I don't think you'll get much more than that even with oak. Perhaps another hour or so but you're not comparing pine to oak.

Hey R,

5-6 hours is pretty good. I once got 7 hours burning a full load of black locust- that is starting the fire to having usable coals to relight the next load. But most of my black locust burns are 4.5 - 5.0 hours. When I burn silver maple (fast, hot burn) I get about 3 hours.

I like my fine-looking Englander 13....it heats my 1450 sq ft. house well, but I let the fire die out in the middle of the night and the natural gas furnace takes over in the early morning.

thanks for the reply. I usually don't get but 5 or 6 hours of sleep so the 13 works out good for me. It's my only heat source at the moment so if I happen to sleep late on a cold morning it gets a little cool in the house
 
I like my Madison. But i cant give you any long burn times. This is my first epa stove and ive had some issues. Ive gotten around a 8 hour burns. Burning hickory. But still havent convinced myself to pack it full. When it passes 650 it still makes me nervous. Even tho we discussed it here and i know its ok to peak around 750.

Could you post some pics of your Madison?
 
I've been burning my nc13 for 5 years now. I load at 10:00pm before bed and wake up at 6:30 with coals for reload.
I load NS in the stove but you need to have splits no longer than 10". Like this it completely changes the burn cycle for me and provides a more controlled burn which in turn lasts longer.

I used an NC-13 for 2 seasons and was very pleased with performance, considering price of stove, but I usually only got 4 hours. And, I found stove could go out or would just smolder on its lowest burn setting, so I never used it. I only have one story house, so maybe my draft wasn't that strong either. I now have the stove in a cabin that I rent or exchange for babysitting and think it will be a great stove for someone who has little stove experience.

Those are about the same times I'm running with my NCI. If I get the overnight mid winter oak fire going at 11, I'll certainly have enough coals left over to get it going again at 7-8.
We just installed a Madison at my dad's cabin and have only had the break in fire, so we are anxious to get down there and run it through its paces. We'll mostly be burning hickory, sugar maple and oak.
