Yupper. I don't think anyone here is selling their pellet stove just yet
I would like to fill my tank right now due to the low prices but with only using Oil for Hot water I don't know if I want to keep
over 200 galllons of oil in my tank for couple years ... hell, I bought 100 gallons Feb 2014 and 100 gallons past October and still have over 1/4 tank still.

ya know it's gonna happen right?
Pro-oil?!? Who posted anything pro-oil? People were just pointing out that there's a financial decision to be made given the dropping oil price and rising pellet price. For the vast majority it's not a political or ecological decision, but a financial one.

I"m not getting suckered by the deliberate choice of the oil cartel to allow prices to drop in order to squash the more expensive to extract alternatives and, as a side benefit, suck gullible consumers back to their oil addiction. It's happened too many times since the first oil crunch in the mid '70s. I'm not complaining about the lower prices, saving me $12/week in my car and about another $2.30/week on average for the 150 gallons or so oil I'll use as a backup and to augment the stove at temps below 0 (I have no idea if I'll use 150 gallons in 1 year, 2 years...).

Bravo!

Pro-Oil meaning the talk has changed a bit here on the forum from getting away from Oil [via pellet stoves] to maybe thinking it might be plausible now due to lower cost..
[thought that the post was obvious but,]....guess not. note to self: don't put Pro in a post I guess..

But what you may have misinterpreted is the reasoning. Most here seem only want to find the most economical way to heat, not crusade against oil.

Obviously yes,, I know the reason. I have Oil also. and that's was part of it but somehow that got misinterpeted.. only takes 1 and the post goes in a different direction than Intended. No Biggie.

I have both pellet and wood and am burning oil. My son paid $1.57 for gas this week in NJ. I am conserving pellets and riding this oil puppy down. Once it hits bottom and starts going back up, I will fill my 2 tanks.

Yea. I think my heating oil company pounds me, but I don't buy a lot of oil. I think if I were to consider using oil again for heating I would do some shopping first.
Don't you have any non-contract type oil companies there? My oil guy charges a discount price which is usually .10 cheaper than everyone else.

Im stocking up,the oil wont go bad ,its already a couple million years old. Next year when its back to $100+ a barrel ad $4 a gallon you will be glad.

if you live in new england and burn oil , you really need this www http://www.newenglandoil.com/

Useful site though there are some asterisks* associated with the lower priced "cash" oil outfits. Go to the site of each and compare.

* 150 gallon minimum versus typical 100 gallon minimum price, delivery surcharge, "we don't deliver to your area" etc.

It's a commodity. Of course it goes back up. In the meantime, if it is a cost effective fuel source, why not use it? BTUs are BTUs, and if oil goes down to $20 a barrel like in the past, how many pelletheads will be sticking to their stoves?

Well I will always burn some no matter. Pellets + wine = Fire = Ambiance = Happy Wife = Heat in other ways.

Heck if I had an oil burner my wood stoves and pellet stove would have flower pots on them this year. And the cord wood and pellets being held in abeyance for later. Alas, I have no oil burner. This stuff ain't a religion. It is just heat.

In this case they are priceless!

If oil gets low enough, I will breakout my lava lamp from the basement, place into the pellet insert, and enjoy the ambiance.

BTW, did you hear they are coming out with a new pellet stove based on microwave technology? Just like the one in your kitchen. It's efficient but the best part is you can sit in front of the stove all night long in about 5 minutes. kudos to Steven Wright.

Every year I mean to shop my oil company before I renew my service contract, but never get around to it.

It seems like half the people I know who have done "guaranteed pricing" or whatever they call it end up paying more in the long run.

A bunch of my neighbors have extra oil tanks. They get together and place a large fuel oil order with a non contract oil guy for a discounted price based on the volume. They all bought a lot of (expensive) oil this summer....

A bear skin rug in front of the oil furnace and a bottle of malt liquor doesn't seem to work as well!
Guessing this thread will soon be shut off...hoho. The joys of the night before Monday's restart of the work week.

There are two parts to this equation.

After burning many tons of different pellets, I have settled on Okanagans. There is only one distributor in my state that sells them. They are 50 miles away and I'm not driving that far to pick them up. So the delivered price if I bought 4 tons today is $365.00 per ton.

$365.00 per ton is a lot of money for wood pellets.
