Any sass I ever had was reddish orange on the inner bark area.

Poplar burns hot and fast when dry and is great kindling. It's also good to burn down a bed of coals as I've learned

I'm not overly enthusiastic about it being Cottonwood, but I think I may be able to have it all delivered at my house and I can cut on it at my place instead of a frozen, snow covered mud pit.

Just be thankful its not sweet gum. Nothing sweet about that crap.

I vote cottonwood. Cut some this year thinking it was oak but then when I got it home I could bury my pickeroon about an inch into it with ease.

Cottonwood!
It's got that orange inner bark like Sass? Never cut any C-wood. I thought it might be a big@-- Sass, and maybe it wasn't as orange because it was so huge.

If it is in fact cottonwood, I wouldn't even bother with it. Everyone's situation is different though, you may need the wood.

I like to put a little faster-burning stuff in the places that burn last in the fire box. I figure the Oak coals will have longer to burn down. I'm trying this now...don't know how well it will work but it seems to be helping. I don't know if I'd get an entire tree's worth since I can get plenty of Tulip...
