Got a late jump on pellets at the beginning of the season, so had to buy a ton of TSC pellets. They burned good, but a lot of ash and they had a lot of silt in the bag. Local hardware store finally got the O'Malley premium pellets. I burned these last year with no problems. This year's batch isn't burning as hot, there's a lot of long pellets, and they look darker than normal. Anyone else notice the same thing, or did I just get a bad batch?

bought a ton of O'Malley's but have only burned a few bags...
long pellets in the bag? yes..
I get good heat but cannot compare color since 1st using them...
medium ash I though..

I bought 5 bags from my local TSC.
Long pellets - Yup!
Dark colored - Yup!
Heat output - Not bad. No worse than Green Supremes. After the first bag of these O'Malley's I cut them with the 100% pine Equine pellets I have since it's cold out.
Ash - About the same as the Green Supremes.

Wouldn't say it's a bad batch. Just a different batch.

yes..
I would rate O'Malley's as a step above the usual Home depot shoulder stuff.. but Not a Big step...

I've been running O'malleys since Sunday. Glass is still very clean, ash is moderate, heat is good. These are the same manufacturer as Power Pellets. Had about the same results with both versions.

I have noticed that the O'Malley's have a lot longer burn time with my Harman...
I know they are long pellets and lowering or raising the feed rate with a Harman doesn't really make any difference since it's controlled by Harman Technology.. the stove chooses the amount it feeds.
They seem to give good heat but as we said before, they are ashy pellets...

Long pellets caused feed issues in my stove. Pellets where ashy. But heat was excellent. If they can figure out the long pellet issue and fix it I would buy them again.

I assume you know the deal about dropping the bag on the floor couple times to break pellets but hell,
for me it's enough just bend over to pick up a bag and carry up the steps from the basement...!!!

I like the O'malley's better than my Energex premiums this year. What are your thoughts? Not the goldens

Assume you mean the green bags in the pix....
I think I would agree with you... they seem to last longer although lot of ash like the Energex green...Right now in maint burn/room/Manual and could scald my hand 8 inches away from the blower which is blowing low speed at this point...so yes they are HOT!!!

btw; The Goldens are super hot and minimum ash but don't last as long as the others..
running a Harman P61A, lot of very small pellets in with normal size so each turn of the Auger puts lot more pellets in the burnpot...doesn't matter feed rate # 3 or #4...
A harman P series does what it does... Takes over and all u can do is make sure you don't have too low of a feed rate or your just never going to reach set temp//[ This is result in Room temp/Manual.
Stove temp may be better.. or worse.. someone chime in if they know more?
getting about 4-5 hrs less time in the super cold days than the O'Malley's and prob the Energex Greens..
soooo, the theory of the Hotter the pellet, the less you will use  is being tested here with these small Golden pellets.
I have timed the Auger with the goldens and it Does turn for 6 or 7 seconds each minute then Off when it is Maintaining the set temp by dribiling in pellets but I think it's quite a lot going in the burnpot even if only for a 10 second turn.
I should concede that we're talking a P61 here so a large burnpot to fill.. 2nd only to the P68 Beast, ...love my Harman btw...so many pellets choices work in these stoves.
The Energex Golden low ash pellets are Top shelve but maybe not for a Harman.?. jury is still out here..
