My problem is that the oil in my tank was expensive so to stop burning pellets would cost me more until I get through the expensive oil. I have 3/4 of a tank right now. Then the question is will the price of oil still be low by the time I burn through what I have???? Seems like it will be but right now the price here in mid coast Maine the price of oil is $2.29. I think it would need to get to $2.00 to make it worth switching.

when I can heat my home to 70~73 as I do with the pellet stove for less $$ with oil I will switch back .. so far oil is still above 2.50 in my area so not yet anyway.. if I go back to oil I also have to go back to 64 degrees in the house .... no thanx

Hey, looks like I did good locking in the price of propane at 3.11/gal :) Yep, I'm happy to have the pellet stoves - I have a lot of tons to buy yet before I even come close to what I would spend for propane (about 10 more than I have bought so far - and I have 2+ left). And the house would not only be colder, but the basement wouldn't be heated either.

I'm locked in at $1.51 on propane. Did that last summer on pre-buy but I still run a stove.

Shut down the stoves today for a mid cycle cleaning. I figured I would burn some Dino juice for next few days as my oil is about 3 years years old in the tank and I might as well burn through it now and refill with cheap fresh oil. This lasted about 10 hours as my wife started complaining she was cold ( the house is the same 72 as with the stoves) and I noticed that while the forced hot air system had the air warm. The counters, walls, and floors definitely felt cold. Did a fast burn pot scrape and interior brush/vac then popped on the downstairs stove. It's now an hour later you can feel the difference!

I get that too with the central heat plant. I think I can attribute it to the fact that the heat output from my biofuel stove is steady, even if it's idiling whereas the heat from the heat plant ceases to come out when the burner isn't lit.
