A flue thermometer for a surface mount (single wall pipe) is virtually the same as a stove top except for the different temp ranges (cold, normal, hot) being painted on the face. If you have double wall pipe you will need a probe thermo instead.

You can simply ignore the painted ranges and go by the actual temp readings.
 
The stove top thermometer in the back right corner is fine. You would use the same one on single wall pipe, if you had that. Since you have double wall you would need to drill a hole and use a probe type. You don t really need it.

Good seasoned wood is what you need now. It's hard to come by unless you do it yourself. It makes all the difference getting the stove to work. Burning wet wood will clog the screen on the cap.
 
Big fan of both stove top and flue thermos ... as mentioned ... doublewall pipe means you need a probe style thermo.

So many weeks of planning and research.... So many months of longing and anticipation and my Oslo is finally installed.

I love it. It's even more beautiful in the space than I dreamed it would be. The hearth pad is solid concrete.

We'll wait for the inspection before burning. Our installer, a favorite of local inspectors, was great and all clearances are exceeded. He had to do some fancy work in the attic to avoid rafters so we needed some expensive t support connector up there. in the end he was able to go straight up into the attic which was important to me.

I cannot wait to burn something!!!

oh jeez. so i just called my insurance agent and she is calling me back later because "arbella doesn't usually like woodstoves"... lol, okay. well, i don't like insurance companies that don't want me to heat my house.
 
You've done it by the book, exceeded requirements and have had it inspected. They should be satisfied. If not, time for a new company perhaps?

Not sure how attached you are to the insurance company . . . but if they give you any issues start calling around. There are plenty of folks here who either a) have paid a small premium to have a woodstove and insurance or b) have paid no premium to have a woodstove and insurance.

When it comes to insurance companies there are plenty of folks who will insure your home with or without a woodstove . . . and often at rates that are just as good if not better than the existing coverage.
 
we are finishing up the 1st break in fire..... omg i want more more more! :) my husband is jonesing to get his hands on her, but is conceding that i'm the boss of the stove for at least a few days since he hasn't even read the manual yet and couldn't even tell you the model # :)

this is fun!

Thank you. The husband was holding out on me. He had a hatchet hiding in the garage and we went out and made some more kindling. He only has one though so I'll need to pick up another so we can work together
 
ok. dumb question.

first break in last night. did the 2nd break in today... started around 9:15 am, slowly got to 300 and then shut her down around 10:45...

she's been cooling since then and is currently cool enough to take a nap inside of. i can only feel the very slightest of residual warmth inside. is that room temperature enough? or does it have to be cold like my hardwood floors? am i being too anal or what?
 
Omg I am sitting here in shorts and a tank enjoying blue flames and secondaries. This is so awesome.

Last January I was shivering under 3 sweaters and our parents didn't even want to come visit us cuz our house was so cold and we refused to turn up the oil furnace.

We are so happy. Even the kids love it. And the cats.

Burn away . . . never mind . . . sounds like you're doing so.

Incidentally, I highly recommend that you not take a nap inside the woodstove . . . :)
