Got FPX large flush insert for couple month now and somewhat mastered burning. Glass is clear, secondary's are beautiful ,house is toasty . The only thing I started not to like after passing initial stages of learning about wet wood, primary air shutting timing etc. is the fact that I can't load insert as full as I wish due to it's construction.
It accommodates 24 '' logs, but it can be loaded east-west only. It's 3cu ft ,but it's not deep. I can't fill it all the way to the top because logs just going to roll out toward the glass. There is two rods sticking up in a front of the door ,but they are way to short to prevent upper logs from falling. These rods just about 2 inches or so.
I was wondering if I can extend somehow these rods and load it fuller.
Any advise on loading?, may be I'm missing something.

The andirons can't really be extended. If they were taller it would prevent you from getting wood through the door.
I had the cape cod for a while, it has the same size and shape firebox. It was difficult to load. It's 3 cubic feet, but only 2.5 feet is usable in my opinion.
