No. In fact my pellet dealer (Do It Hardware) gives them to me if I want them.

I'm not artsy-fartsy...
Neither am I but I am good at building things that cost me next to nothing and can put a little extra cash in my pocket, plus they are really nice and Im doing my part to lower my kaboom footprint and when I make enough money I will buy the biggest truck I can afford to pick up pallets.>>KABOOM!!

You realize that I'll now have to work harder at polluting to make up for the lessening of your lower so-called "carbon footprint." :) I think I'll go outside and idle my plow for an hour or so to warm it up.

We are going to ship. I am half mile from Reigelsville Bridge. We just need to work out a few more details and handcrafting will begin. Come spring going to hit up a few farmers markets in the area and test the waters. In the mean time will get up and going on Facebook. Already sold the first wine rack and feedback has been positive.

Keep me in mind.

Absolutely will Thanks:) You any where near Sailorsburg, Pa. ? Huge market there.

If they don't charge a deposit we are still paying for them! I would guess that 75% of all pellets manufacturing comes directly from PALLET mfg. And those guys will ship their products on scrap pallets. It's a form of wast they're trying to get rid of it in the product they're making in the pellets. And yes they put some green sawdust in with the dry, that's why sometimes we see such variation in the products. We pay for when we burn some of that crap!

The other 25% comes from sources like hardwood floor & trim companies ect that have controlled source on their dust and their wood scraps and have to buy the pallets and then they pass that charge on the us.

Sometimes you might be surprised the vendor you been buying from for 10 years if you ask him if you return the pallets is there a refund?

Funny how this was brought up. Myself and a co-worker are starting up a small side business. " Pleasant Pallets" all handcrafted home décor. All made from pallets.View attachment 151547 This is the first wine rack, glass holder. Wish I had the finished larger shot. In the works are spice rack, candle holder , beer bottle rack, key rack w/ drawer...and many more to follow.

That's really nice!

My farts sometimes come out looking like an ink blot test. Does that make me artsy fartsy?

I usually buy pellets by the ton and so far I have never been charged a separate fee for a pallet.

Damp farts and pallet art aside... Usually, when I buy seed or crop inoculant or herbicide/pesticide in bulk and it comes skidded, I get charged a deposit for the pallet/skid but they are usually plastic and sometimes aluminum skids, not secind rate wood. With a deposit involved, it's prudent to return the skids and IMO, that lessens the impact of old skids winding up in landfills or discarded in some vacant lot.

really, not a bad idea.

no deposit here. I usually put them out front with a free sign and people snatch them up. I keep the best strongest ones for me and use them for other things. I made a nifty hauling cart for my rider mower. it can haul up to 15 bags of pellets before it starts to look iffy. I also used a few as walls for a compost bin. When they start to rot i'll just change em out with new pallets.

Local dealer will give me $3 per pallet in store credit if I bring them back.

I should probably add (forgot to) that I use the second rate wood pallets to stack hay on in the hay barn. Keeps the bales off the floor and they stay dry.

Important to know if you burn hay in your pellet stove.

I considered pelletizing hay in the past on more than one ocassion, especially when I have a couple hundred rounds in the barn. In Europe, whole rounds of straw and off grade hay are burned in controlled atmsophere furnaces for heat and DHW.

Quite pertinent actually. Probably not in Virginia however.;lol

Just wondering if any of you are charged a deposit for the pallet that the pellets are delivered on. In the past I had to pay a deposit when I purchased things like block, portland cement, roofing shingles, ceramic tile and even my garage door. This is when I lived in California where it seemed like pallets were a commodity, saw big rigs hauling them all over. Haven't seen it in Arizona yet but I have'nt bought much on pallets except for a ton of pellets.
Here in alaska Blazer supposedly charged he local HD a $30 deposit. They in turn charged us a $15 deposit. I ordered 4 ton, 3 unloaded in the garage with returned pallets putting $45 back in my pocket. 1 still outside loaded up waiting.

A few places are starting to make hay/grass pellets, from what I hear they still have bugs to iron out in the process, ash seems high ............. but if I could find some around here, I'd definitely try 'em, if they were cost effective I'd definitely burn 'em ........ I got time to clean out a little extra ash to save a few bucks ..................................
