The past 3-4 start-ups the auto igniter failed to work. Manual start works fine. What trouble shooting steps should I follow to diagnose the problem?

Looking at the hole where it meets the front of the stove, does it glow when started? Has to be pretty dark to see that. Or put a Q-tip in the hole for a minute or so..It should light....... If it's not glowing: Is it dirty with ash? Clean it out (gently) with a small screwdriver or Q-tip. You can test the igniter itself( unplug the stove) with an ohm meter, IFIRC it should read 45-50 ohms..
