Feeling the Heat

So I used mountain stone stack stone from MTS. industries for my hearth. I was thinking about applying a sealant to just the surface of the hearth to make it easier to
clean after ash, wood etc gets on it.
Anyone recommend anything or not recommend doing this?

If you apply anything, apply it to an inconspicuous place , so you can see what it looks like after the application. It may darken, discolor or make it unsightly .

I apply sealant almost every year on my slate hearth ... forgot to do it this year. Only advice is to make sure the hearth is clean ... really clean ... before using the sealant .... otherwise any dust, stains, dirt, etc get sealed.
