Took advantage of the warm temps today to get a full sweep and mid season cleaning in. Figured it'd be my only chance in the near future based on the forecast for this week.
I'm a night and weekend burner and usually go through about 1.5 cords per season. Wood is mix of 3 year red/white oak and some red maple. I typically clean twice a year; right before season starts and then again mid season. Usually get about 1/2 gallon of dry flaky by product with build up in the same areas. Today I noticed that there was a small amount of creosote build up on the snap lock adapter where the DVL meets the wall thimble. Chimney set up is 6' DVL, through wall w/thumble, and then up again with 18' of triple wall ss. System runs well so no complaints here however was just curious to see what others thought about the build up. My thoughts were that this is the only section (1") in the chimney that's not insulated. Note that the surround in the thimble is always cold, as it should be.
