Ontario pellets

I fine very little fines in a bag and producing good heat. The only pellets I could try and compare them to were Ambiance and Canawick. They burn much cleaner and less ash. Not much choice in the Hearst area.

They are hot as hell, but a lot of ash.

The Lacwood softwood pellets run great in the stove on the lower settings, during the last warm spell I was able to heat the house on 2/5 setting on the P3 and due to their large size they drop out slowly. Best part is they burn so damn clean that I honestly didn't even need to clean the stove after 4 days of straight use, finally just did it because I was bored and wanted to see how it looked. Only downside is when the temp drops below -15C, they just don't pack the punch required to keep the house comfortable. For the cold weather, I picked up 20 bags of Cubex Hardwood from QC and they throw some intense heat but do not burn quite as clean as the Lacwoods did.

Solution: Mixing!

My new setup that has been working well:
Warmer than -10C is 100% Lacwood
-10C to -20C is about 50% Cubex and 50% Lacwood, get lots of heat and the softwoods keep the burn pot clean
anything lower than -20 is around 75% Cubex to 25% Lacwood. Still needs to be cleaned every couple days but produces probably twice as much heat as 100% Lacwoods on the same setting.

I picked up another 25 bags of Lacwoods on Monday for $5.79 a bag at Home Hardware, this was our first year so we have been learning lots and will now be able to preorder for next year to save some money.

Also note: While picking up the Lacwoods Monday, they asked if I wanted hardwood or softwood, I didn't know Lacwood produced hardwood pellets? Car was full with the 25 bags already but I figure the next time I'm near, I'll pick up a bag of these Hardwood Lacwoods if they do indeed exist.

On generalities, I think you will find you prefer the softwood compared to the hardwood as all my experiences have resulted that way. Depends on what hardwood they use for feed stock also.

Lacwood only does softwood pellets. Home Hardware may carry hardwood pellets from a different supplier

Ive been hearing good things about the Pinnacles in the blue and white bags. Can anyone chime in on this?
