Was on I95 north in mystic/stonnington and I noticed the state came in and leveled all the tree growth along the highway. It was insane. Truck were lined up all along the breakdown lane filling there beds with log lengths of maple, cherry, beach, and oak. Guys were cutting, and limbing up the trees on the ground and making brush piles along the highway. There is some serious cord wood all along the highway.

Anyone have any details on if the wood is "free for all" or if this is a "good ole boys" operation??
 
It's been posted before when they did this on 8 and 395 that it didn't really seem to be a problem and load em up
 
I've live down that way and have been driving past that for a few weeks and haven't had a minute to stop. I may have to make some time tomorrow but most of its covered in snow now.
 
Fair game. It's tough to pass everyday but I just can't bring myself to stop along the side of one of the busiest highways in the nation for a wood scrounge. I can't believe some of the things I see drivers doing these days, be safe if you do stop.
 
They butchered the Merritt Parkway last year. I've seen lots of pickups pulled over picking up the wood. I noticed now they leave the rounds a good 12' long instead of cutting them shorter. I'm thinking that is to deter scrounging, but I haven't heard of anyone being ticketed or anything for taking the wood. They're just going to waste it in a shredder anyway.

The group I saw along I95 had quite the cutting operation......all I saw was Stihl Husky Stihl Husky........ :)
 
I used to live down that way and poached the stuff they left along the Merritt in Stratford. I would go early on a Sunday morning when the traffic was at the lowest. Of course, it went fast, so you might not have the luxury...
