I just paid eight bucks a bag for Somersets!!

Based on everybody here raving about them I bought 4 bags of Somersets to test. Had to pay eight bucks a bag for them. They better melt my stove, cook me breakfast and be prettier than my wife 'cause if not there's no way I use them regularly l. Since our Lignetics work so well I'm gonna have lots of 'splainin to do.

Few weeks ago my local hardware store had maybe 15 bags near the cash register, i was excited to see them , I asked how much?, they said $7.99 a bag........no thanks I thought and left, My local Lowes had them in 2010, paid $178 a ton, had some left over I think last yr, burn nice with low ash.

I've never used them before hence the experiment. Got the heat gun ready. . . . . . .
 
Tried the same experiment with Turman's at $8.75 a bag. Price insane but they blew me out of the living room with hardly any ash.

I was thinking along the same line...or maybe their CO detectors need checking if they have one.;)

Never seen a bag of Somersets, or Lignetics, or Turmans. FSU's are the best pellets I've ever gotten or seen. Of course, this is only my second winter with pellets, so wasn't in the habit of looking at what pellets were around when I had them.

Hope a bag lasts a week and is hotter than Hades!
 
Well, I'm here to tell you that I've burned almost 3 tons of SETS and I've emptied the ash pan ONE TIME... (Thats not a typo either).

Gee, I have 2 tons in the barn left and I might part with one of those tons, for the right price......

Been burning SETS for the last 3 years now. Only pellet I'll roast.
 
So with oil at least locally down to 2.20 a gallon and my oil burner tech tell me I will burn about 3 gals of oil on the coldest of cold days. I need to ask at what point is it not cost effective to burn the pellets? I paid 279 a ton for what I got or about 5.60 a bag and burn a bag and a half a day or so.

You might as well fill your oil tank up and burn the rest of your pellets (this year) because next year oil will be right back up where it was earlier this year. Trust me, I'm from the Federal Gummit.....lol

I'd invest in some biocide for your oil tank for the summer so things (algae) don't grow in there......

Thats $6.00 CDN (funny money) right? Current exchange is basically 5 CDNequals 4 USD
 
To bad that price is so high the somersets are the best I have burned and only cost 5.38 a bag here in GA at my local Lowes.

They are very good but don't be disappointed if your stove doesn't melt down. They are also an awesome pellet to cook with if you have a pellet cooker and I use them to cook for my lovely wife.

I hope your test works well and look forward to the results.

Which Lowes is that?
 
I'm having one issue with the SETS and that is, for some reason, this last skid is different, not different in the heat output or the low ash but there is something in the pellets I'm allergic too. I have to be careful handling them or I break out in a rash on my arms and face (if I lean over the hopper when I dump them in).

No issue on the deck, mixing with corn and I thought it was the corn so I roasted a couple bags with no corn and broke out.

This third skid also smells slightly different too. Not a bad smell (still has the acid like oak smell) but different somehow.

I bought 6 tons all at one time from one supplier and they were all warehoused together.

I have to take a Benadryl before I handle them or it's a rash and a runny eyes. Not good but doable.

I cannot figure it out. It has to be something in the pellets, but what, I have no idea.

Cedar dust will make you break out in a rash and itch all over! I made a set of deer and duck calls for a buddy out of an old cedar tree that his ancestors planted and it finally died. I itched for a month after that. Never again!
 
There is something in this ton, don't know what. I hope the next ton is better. Cedar isn't native to Northern Kentucky is it? Somerset Hardwoods is a flooring mill in Somerset, Kentucky. Thats where the pellets come from.

Yes, cedar is all over Kentucky.
 
Must be what it is then. I have to be real careful or it's allergy time. Good pellets though.
