Do yourself a favour, and DON'T! I have a lot of money(and I see you do too) in chainsaws, bars, and chains to be cheaping out like that.

I never was very impressed with anything but Stihl bar oil or husky bar oil. IMHO they seem to do a better job than the cheap stuff

Exactly! Many of the toxins are known carcinogens, why expose yourself and the environment to something like that.
Been doing it for years with seemingly no ill effects except cost savings.
Which one of you guys smoke?

I agree this is practical and I do it sometimes (when I have old engine oil). I haven't noticed any issues.
My father in law uses tsc bar oil and rural king bar oil in his saws and has very good luck out of it for the price.

I don't smoke, either.
There some heavy metals in used motor oil that I don't want to take into my body in any manner (swallow, breathe in aerosol form, absorb through skin), have in my garden, or get into nearby streams.
Regarding getting sick: Sometimes we get sick and fail to pin down the precise cause or just think it's a bacterial or viral infection or food poisoning "from something we ate" when it very well could be something else.
Sometimes you won't feel ill or see adverse effects for some time. Some of these heavy metals bioaccumulate over time and cause serious problems later. I've worked in chemical labs most of my adult life and have seen chemical sensitivies and worse develop.
These days, I try to recycle as much motor oil as I can. The problem is that too many other people and companies don't do it and it shows up in our food and fish & wildlife.

I know pa people that pour kerosene on their entire driveway to smooth out the bumps in the "recycled" asphalt they decided to use. I would never do such a thing. I use a gallon of recycled motor oil over maybe a two - three year period. We need to be resonable.
