got this stove used a long time ago Im guessing around 2007 it worked ok for a couple months and then it would just randomly stop working I'd clean it out top to bottom wiggle the auger and nothing so I would go back to try it a few weeks later and it would work for a few hours and then stop again

fast forward to this year I replaced the auger motor and it ran for a few days whithout any problems until I shut it down to clean it try to start it again and it wouldnt feed pellets again and wasnt jammed I try my new computer that I got years ago and it started working for a couple days again

I shut it down to clean it same thing happened it wont feed pellets

I put computer to diagnostic mode and everything works except the auger

now heres my screw up I accidentally shorted the something and fried the one computer(original one) because jumper wire I used to jump snap disc one touched metal sparks bad smell I unplug it and put the new computer in and its fine went through diagnostic check still no auger movement

so unplug it and put computer back to position one take jumper off the snap disc and vacuum switch Plug it back in to try and run it nothing nothing at all works now exhaust motor doesnt even start

I checked fuse I have power to the outlet

so now whats wrong with the dam thing ?

I am so sick of this stove its gonna end up getting scrapped

Is call light coming on when the thermostat calls for heat?

yes red call light was on

latest issue it does nothing now plug into the outlet and nothing no fans no lights nothing I checked the fuse and it looked fine even tried a spare fuse from my car parts probably not the right amp fuse but still nothing

Check #3 snap disc to see if it is tripped. You can also jump its wires together(make sure they can't ground out on anything), and see if power is restored. Also check fuse holder to make sure it is good. You have any testers to test for power in lines? kap

jumped #3 still nothing fuse and fuse holder look fine

gonna try a power cord from my computer looks like the same type of plug

I have handheld voltmeter/tester

Have you tested the outlet to make sure there is power?

Also unplug stove and make sure control box is seated properly. May want to try other box to see if some things start working to see if box is bad

I don't suppose you could take pictures of your wiring harness and all its connections?

yes tried that original computer is now fried due to shorting the jumper wire I had on snap disc #1
I know you toasted it, but was thinking putting it in to see if other things started working. kap

A few things come to mind. When were the door gaskets last changed, both of them? And If your using a thermostat that would be another first place I would look. If your using the wireless one that came with the stove it's time to change the batteries in both the remote receiver by the stove and the controller and if using a regular one it time to make new connections on the ends and try again. As always unplug the stove first. If the batteries are shot you will get nothing from the stove. No motors will turn on, nothing.

never changed door gaskets but 1st thing I did when it stopped feeding pellets was bypassing the vacuum switch

Im thinking both computers I have are fried is there anyplace that repairs these? might just have a friend of mine try to fix it not sure how good his repair skills are hes an electrician and said if he can actually see which part on the board burnt he can replace that piece

is there some type of control board testing station or testing harness or something available to buy?

new control board on ebay is $290

and I've been wondering what the metal part is on the side of the control box? is it to ground the box to the side panel? because Ive been running this thing without the 2 rear side panels attached to it ever since I installed it

There used to be a testing kit years ago, but no more. Best thing is if you know someone with a similar stove they can test it in, or a dealer that will test it. The metal part is not for grounding. The original company Quad bought these from is Pantrol Co. Phone # 800-261-3505. I don't know if they repair, or what the cost would be. I do know they still sell control boxes, but can't remember if it has to be a certain amount or if you can get individual. kap

ttamoneypitthis, this is the company we used for many years to fix circuit boards that can,t be found in the market place anymore, they are excellent on repairs , they will do a evaluation test on the board to see what cost is needed for repair www.industrialelectronicsrepairs.com

Nice share. Hope they are affordable. kap

I thought the non ae's were better. I have an AE and I'm not too happy with it.

I've not had any issues with mine other then a disc switch that went bad. I've had others issues but not the stoves fault. I've found, with mine, that the type, and brand of pellets can play games with the way the stove operates. If pellets are good the stove will relight on the second speed setting using a thermostat. If the pellets are not God sometimes it will relight and others it won't. Put different pellets in and the problem goes completely away.

The only complaint I could say with mine is that it can be loud especially on the higher settings.

fun fun fun new control box arrived install it stove fires up and is burning just the pellets that I put in the fire pot no auger movement but I hear it buzzing, pellet hopper is empty only pellets in the auger tube and around the auger so I reach down and turn the auger with my fingers and I can continue to rotate it pretty easily when the auger motor is trying to turn itself, but it just isnt powerful enough to do the job , when control box isnt signaling the auger its a lot more difficult to turn with my fingers hit reset button humming sound and I can again easily turn the auger and hear pellets dropping into fire pot

now this crap just pisses me off because I thought that the original auger motr was weak and would get weaker after a day or 2 of working just fine so I got an auger motor off ebay a rare one that has 4 magnets on it was told it was a limited run that quadrafire ordered to eliminate auger jams so it was a stronger motor to power through some pellet jams

now i got that motor a few yrs ago and just this yr finally got around to installing it it worked for a few days stove stopped working and if you read the original post here I am today after frying the stupid control board doing diagnostic test when the stove stopped working again

I really do hate this folking thing

so is this new motor bad was the original motor bad? is it the wiring harness ? folking thing is gonna go outside and everytime I have the guns out its gonna get new holes in it

Probably time to pull out the augar and its motor and bench test it. Test the other one you have also. Have you put in the augar capacitor kit that's been talked about in other Quad Mt. Vernon posts? Are you positive the collar on the augar is on correctly and tight? Just throwing some things out to you to check.

When you got the new auger motor, did the wiring harness have the capacitor on it? Little red square with two metal skinny prongs sticking out the bottom of it? Try the old motor?
