We recently purchased and installed a Harman XXV pellet stove that my husband is diligent about cleaning. It has only been installed and operational since October 2014 but within the last week the distribution fan has become troublesome. It is making a low whining sound. Not the sound we found posted on youtube associated with auger design. He has noticed that the higher the temperature, the louder the sound becomes. We have referred to the owner's manual but have not had any success with resolution despite all the recommended cleaning. He cleans the window and burn pot out daily as well as vacuuming the entire stove at least once per week. He also cleaned the combustion fan on Sunday after burning the first ton of pellets as per manufacturers instructions in the Harman video we received with our stove. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I have the XXV as well and had an intermittent whining / fan vibration noise. Not sure if this is the same as what you are seeing, my issue was day one after install.

Luckily my techs had recently seen this on another XXV, It turns out it was a sheet metal screw that had been driven too deep near the distribution fan. The screw was contacting the fan housing and picking up the fan vibration.

Good Luck

Thank you so very much. I will let my husband know and see if we can contact the dealer for a service appointment. I hope our problem can be solved this easily. My husband is very discouraged at this point. We have previously burned a wood stove but converted to a pellet stove for environmental as well as effort and safety but we seem to be off to a rocky start. We appreciate your help! Thanks again.

I know you said it was the distribution fan, but...the first time I cleaned my combustion fan on my XXV, I bent the fan blades irreparably, which created a horrible metallic whining that got louder and louder as the stove heated up. Had to run out and get a new fan blade & replace it before my wife's Pampered Chef party! If you're certain it's your distribution fan, then please disregard & good luck troubleshooting

I had a noise one time. The manual describes a spot to clean on the back right side of the stove where pellet fines drop. Cleaning this made the noise stop.

Been a member for a long time. Why not fill in your signature and let us know what stove you have etc. :)

I'm having the same problem and have an active post on it. Dealer coming out this week to install the second fan
