You have to wonder when it will moderate a bit. It's real cold here and supposed to stay cold through next week with wind chills way below zero and ambients only in the teens.

I'm sucking down pellets (and corn) big time again with no end in sight.

Was hoping for a carrover to next year of a ton but if it stays like this, that won't be happening.

It's coming, first official day of spring is about 5 weeks away now. If oil prices hold out I may be running on oil for the shoulder season vs going out and getting another ton.. I'm running a little over expectations because of the early start. If oil doesn't hold I'll buy the pellets for the shoulder season.

Hey I was hoping to be burning brush right now, can't even see the pile, it's buried ! Burning opened back in Jan and closed April 1 April 1, this snow might melt by then but I got a huge pile of brush to burn.. My trailer is buried, my tractor is buried. And my snow blower has a sealed bearing starting to sound a bit dry that I'm hoping makes the season out. I'll tear it down before next season ( at least it's mostly noisy with no load on it). They just posted a blizzard watch for Sat night into Sunday, another foot of snow expected, with 35-45 MPH winds and 65 MPH gusts. That means 3 ft drifts most likely, on top of what we have. And 2-4 inches tonight.

Not whining, just sayin.

Dropped to -14 this morning and last night the winds were driving the fresh four inches of snow at up 40 mph. Bixby is eating a lot of corn today. Weeks forecast is to be well below normal here.

Yup. It's cold but all in all it hasn't been a horrible winter for the central us. Beats 6' of snow

Lot of winter left and March usually is the snowiest. State DNR is worried about spring fire danger in MN. Wasn't 08 mild but got hammered with snow in March and then rains first of April causing flooding?

The first sign of spring here. The Red Sox equipment truck departed for Florida today. It's cold and spitting snow but at least it's something to tell us it will end. Only in sports crazy Boston this is sports news.

I am sure that the rest of Boston wished they were on that truck after all the winter storms and a bit more coming:)

I sold a old two door Jutol that I had for years and refinished it last fall. They make nice stoves. Haven't priced a new wood burner in that class.

That almost sounds like an automobile (if you didn't know it was a woodstove...)

It's 9 here right now 7:20pm with a minus 20 wind chill. Pellets and corn is getting consumed quickly tonight. Said to the wife when I came in...seems a bit cold in here and she replied it's fine. I looked at the thermostat in the kitchen it said 66. I guess 66 is warm compared 9.

Could be 5 long weeks the I'll have farm equipment crunch time.

- 25 here tonight winds a howling, E 2 keeping my old farm house a comfortable 72 deg ( happy wife )

Jeff

Bet you are playing slave to the stoves tonight......

Extreme Cold Warning
Issued at 3:17 p.m. EST Thursday 12 February 2015

Summary
A period of very cold wind chills is expected. A strong cold front has crossed southern Ontario ushering in much colder temperatures and gusty winds. Wind chill values this afternoon have generally been between minus 20 and minus 35 across central and eastern Ontario

U might say that:cool:

Not in the class you guys have but damned cold for here headed for 7 tonight with 40 mile an hour gusts. And this is the warm night for the rest of the week and wind supposed to pick up. Power failures already stacking up by the hour.

Bart, I was thinking it don't usually get that cold down your way..... You'll be stuffing the stove as well....................

Hope power stays on here if not I will keep the NCH - 30 burning to power gets restored

Jeff

Yeah around zero Sunday night after a daytime forecast high of 18 will be the demise of a lot of really nice red oak splits.

I will not be doing my usual stuff the stove at 8:30, go to bed at midnight and get up at 9 routine through this for sure.

Fingers cross it don't get too windy here with the extreme cold. The trees will be loosing limbs and the power will go south.... and I'll be on standby and sucking down propane....... yuck. Have lots of shop work to do, lots of outstanding orders tp get done and shipped.

Hopefully you and others here have a quiet warm night. Man I just jumped off my chair, my front screen door made one h--l of a bang and the motion detector activated, Looked out and found the neighbors plastic trash can up against my door it is doing some nasty high wind gust

Jeff

Yeah my ears are wide open. There are approximately fifty 80 foot trees withing 50-60 feet of this house and the wind is fierce. There is so much crap blowing around that I had to shut down motion detection on the security cameras.

That is our power problems exposure. The power lines run through miles and miles of trees just like them.

Hang in There BB winds are suppose to drop late mourning , just had my trees topped in the fall, nothing can hit the house anymore

Jeff

Sounds like a normal winter in northern Maine.

Heading for 7 tonight, expect another foot of snow and -5 Saturday. Between the cold and the snow, if I hadn't switched to pellet heat this year I would be flat out of cash. I paid $600 to get my roof shoveled the other day, and if i was still on electric heat my bill would be $1000 a month. Other folks in town have been quoted $1100 to remove the tons of snow off their roofs. Worst winter I've seen since we moved here 18 years ago.

Yeah loaded the 30-NC 45 minutes ago. With these winds holding it under 800 is a job. I guess 793 right now counts as holding it under 800.
