They usually don't. Most all the sap flow is just under the bark layer. I'd be considering stewed rabbit myself.

I started work Friday at a balmy minus 30 C! I have been working outside since January 5th! The cold doesn't bother me as much as the wind chill lately, which has been more of a lazy wind, in other words, it doesn't go around you, it goes right through you. We are up in North Bay for the night, hoping the stove holds tough. 2 yrs running and just shy of 8000 hrs on it and so far running fine (knocking on wooden table that I am typing on). The pellet shortage has found its way into Muskoka. It's hit and miss between Walmart, HD and some of the other home building centers in the area. So far, Walmart is the best deal at $5.25 a bag and they will load a skid in our truck if you ask nicely.
Bags - try a Milwaukee heated jacket or hoodie. It may be just what you need to get through that tropical deep-freeze you think you are imagining

Whats the difference between that and a DeWalt? I already have vest and chaps for motorcycle
It's cold here, no doubt. Presently a -20(f) windchill and ambient at 8. I'll be snuggled under the electric blanket tonight....

Bio - A friend of mine has the DeWalt jacket. He is getting about 2-3 hrs. on high. My Milwaukee is pushing 4 hrs and a bit on the 12-volt battery on high setting. It also has pocket warmers (good for when you head to the outhouse
). I have another friend who has owned the Milwaukee just shy of 4 winters and is still standing the test of time. He just purchased the hoodie as he works outside in construction. I purchased a 2nd battery with mine due to the inclement weather that I would be using it in. For charging your phone, all you have to due is add a USB cable and fish it through jacket to your inside breast pocket. All in all, I believe Milwaukee has a slight edge in heating time. But don't quote me, everyone has their own opinions. Remember, we are using these jackets in minus 20 and 30 C or F whichever you prefer. Either way it's bloody cold. The Milwaukee will run up to 6 hrs. on low setting. I feel the high setting would be too warm on a early spring or fall day. I wish I'd had a jacket like this back in '82 when I rode from east to west coast on my bike!

Year before last the Memorial weekend was forecast to be nice for all three days. Wrong. Monday the high temp was 51. Not really a problem with heated grips,seat, chaps and vest. Made a 200 mile trip with a smile and fired up the stove when got home.
I do not have a battery jacket or coat but there is someone Coleen who has the Milwaukee jacket and she loves it. She is getting about 4 hours on a battery and she charges it over lunch for the rest of the day. It does run out since we are working 12 hrs. but it is the warmest part of the day. This chic can hang better than some of the guys and is a great carpenter and helper. She and her husband are teamed up working with me and they are my pick out of many. Win-win.
I have personally not tried a battery jacket out. I agree the winds beat you to near death. I'd rather have a colder day with no wind. It is flat in Indiana and nothing to block the wind at all plus we are about 50 feet up in the air which makes it just that much more lovely. As for riding in this cold stuff I have done it but just not that dedicated any longer. Like Flip bikes are in the stables and I am in the house. Especially after working out in it all week. April can not get here quick enough!
For many reasons such as riding weather and just better temps and days in general. I seem to dislike winter more each year. The wife hates cold weather and is ready to spend them in Florida or Arizona and we will when she retires in 9-10 years. Problem solved. We love it here but they can keep Jan. - Feb. and March too.
I am already qualified to be a snow bird and head south. I went gray in my 30's.

Less to wash. I still have all of mine but the gray started creeping in when I was early 20's. Still some salt and pepper but way more salt these days.

Plenty cold enough at my house this morning, -6ºF when I left for work. Though the wind died down from the original forecast. Got both stoves cranking. The wall about 10' beside my pellet stove reads 52º with the IR. The space heater which I also ran on high all night in the bedroom I think came up to 56º when I got up. The ex is going to reload the stove for me this afternoon so hopefully it will atleast be in the 50's when I get home lol.
Good to have a relationship with the ex. My ex would rather burn the house down. I cou;ld use 2 stoves today. The heat plant is running off and on to hold 68 in here.

Midwest freeze? Well it's really a no walk in the park here in the NY area. Pipes froze for the second time this winter except this time it took me almost 12 hrs to get running water again. I'm back to 2 bags a day and turning the oil kicker too now to keep this 1 pipe from mummifying. I spoke to my plumber today and it seems that there's no damage to my pipe but he advised me to try and get in that tight crawl space and insulate that thing. But still he told me on days like yesterday I should turn my oil burner on.
If I remember correctly, you can't toss the Dewalt in the washer and dryer, you can with the Milwaukee. Got one for the wife last year, one of the smarter Xmas gifts I've given. And I have to say, yall are making me really happy I live in the pnw. 65 and sunny here, haven't seen snow yet this year...
Saving grace was we filled the stock tanks on Friday and it froze up Saturday night so I gave it the 'Hail Mary with the big salamander and got it unthawed this evening. Wasn't at the well at all (had the well driller crew out to pull the pump and check that and all was good there). Froze up right where it comes above ground and under the house (in the crawl space). Everything else is way below frost line (5+ feet bury). Stuck the fire breather under the house in the access panel with my wife in her Carhartts watching to make sure nothing caught on fire and proceeded to 'heat 'er up' while I kept an eye on the pipe to make sure it didn't split.....
Took about 30 minutes and it broke loose so all ends well and the tanks get replenished tomorrow. I'm really sick of this arctic cold. Was really dreading hauling water and dealing with the ice and frozen fingers. Got up to a balmy +3 today.......
The next bummer will be the electric bill for the tank heaters. I've had to go out every morning and bust ice on the tanks despite the heaters.

No water in the house is doable...You can always melt snow or go buy jugs of water and use the toilet at the gas station......lol

Amy and I both had an odor about us soI took a hot shower and Amy took a nice hot bath. We smell good now....
Me thinks I'll have the crawl spray foamed this summer. Don't want a replay next winter.

No let up in sight on the deep freeze........ Well into the below 0 temperatures through the weekend and below freezing all next week.............
