I guess I can consider myself lucky only 1/4 cord of hard wood on a 1300 square feet house with no other heat.

It was still nice to look outside this morning and see -12 degrees and then check the stat in the dining room and see 72 degrees.

Holy hell. Last winter my friend about killed herself with the $1,200 monthly fuel oil bills in December and January (keeping her thermostat set on 60). I convinced her to get a pellet stove, so she did. The "King" stove from Tractor Supply. Notwithstanding the reviews, hers runs (mostly) flawless now that she has it tuned. So...... she runs about a ton every 4 to 6 weeks. She's thrilled that she can keep her giant house at 75 for so little money.
Mine is purely (read - "mostly") supplemental running on slightly higher than low most of the time. I bought a ton in October and will need to get more soon, but, my house is well sealed and retains heat quite well, save for the floor of the part that's over a crawl space...... the floor gets cold but mostly tolerable.

Yep as you know been pretty much below zero during feb so far - actually they are saying average feb temp so far is 4.3 negative! Been going through about 2 to 2.5 bags per day... today it was 21 - that dropped to 1 bag... it really needs to warm up a little bit! Specially with pellets scarce in Northern Maine right now. Places are only allowing 5 bags per day.... thankfully I still got 2 tons left in reserve

One ton in the last 14 days, I can't complain with how cold it's been here, kept both floors of the house and the basement at 70-74 around the clock, even when the wind was blowing hard all night. I do not miss the LP furnace, especially on nights like that. Also used about a half ton in the shop over the past 30 days, stove in there doesn't run non-stop, only when I'm out there working, ceiling mounted LP heater keeps it at 55 around the clock, pellet stove keeps at a toasty 70 while I work.

Pretty much my scenario - negative double digits most mornings, only neg single digits yesterday - and woohoo, positive single digits this morning. I turned the Hastings to Smart Stat mode yesterday (has been on T-stat for 2-3 weeks) - yesterday it must have gotten in the 20's since the thermostat was reading 74 and the stove was off. Another 20's day today, so I did the same thing. Nice to get home and not have to feed the stove first thing!

A balmy -19 forecast for us tonight. Usually, the weatherman is wrong but not so lately. He needs to start being wrong....lol
I keep my floor heat in the new shop at 65 and the old shop (at night) at 41 and 55 in the day. Not too bad on propane, about 500 gallon a season. 65 in the floor equates to about 55 ambient but warm feet is always nice.

We keep the house at around 67... it fluctuates some usually 70's around the stoves and 63/64 in the far reaches. Don't quite have a heated shop yet.. 60x40 with 15' ceilings and no insulation. Was 6 degrees out there 2 days ago.... some day I tell ya ... some day... My hopes is after insulating this year to keep the shop in the 40's next year... I like it cold but not in single digits. The tools will numb my hands less that way...
I call bull***t! From $1200 down to $250 and 15 degrees warmer even, those are some magic pellets!

I had 60 bags on a pallet near the boiler on the 7th and today there are only 5 left. Just now it is -4 with a wind gusting to 30 mph. I think that translates to -31 wind chill. The thermostat is set a 71 and the house temp first floor is 71. But am burning some pellets.

-10 here right now, headed to -19 later. I have the ugly stove in passing gear, wide open and the furnace is still coming on. This is gonna be a bad night for pellet/corn consumption.

She uses a ton every 4 to 6 weeks. What you're not recognizing is that there are many variables regarding how much pellets one person will use versus another. She lives in an old yet updated and insulated house with an old inefficient pig of an oil furnace which also heats her hot water. So yes, a ton a month instead of 100 gallons of fuel oil every 7 to 10 days. Thus far this winter she has used 200 gallons of fuel oil, some of which was for hot water. For her there is a substantial savings, for others, maybe not so much.
Also, our pellets here are $279 to $300/ton.

I keep looking at the extended forecast to March, which shows some moderation.
It is supposed to moderate in March ...... The calender says so.

We will cross 50 bags for February today, 223 since September. Yeah it's cold..but thankfully we've gotten nowhere near the amounts of snow as they have up north.
