We will cross 50 bags for February today, 223 since September. Yeah it's cold..but thankfully we've gotten nowhere near the amounts of snow as they have up north.

Same temps as you guys, but only a foot of snow and most of that has dropped in feb.

It is supposed to moderate in March ...... The calender says so.

March 3 we are going to speed things up a bit by flying south to Myrtle Beach. Right now Myrtle Beach is 17 degrees and feels like 5 degrees. I can't wait. ;)

Just like everyone else up hear, the problem is now the weight of snow on our roofs. We've got some rain forecasted for Sunday which only make that situation a whole lot worse at the snow sucks up the water like a sponge. I absolutely MUST get the snow off my roof before Sunday's storm.

Had our roofs done on Tuesday. Checked the attic on Wednesday and found a cracked truss. Sandwiched the weakened truss at the crack with steel plates that extend past the damaged area 32" to either side.

Seems like the savings my pellet stove has generated being eaten up by other winter related expenses this year.

Winter of 2014 / 2015 ranks in the top (bottom) three in my memory. By the time it is over it will likely be number one. A brief temperature respite this weekend BUT with a snow and ice storm forecast, followed by more single digit and sub zero nights next week.

I call bull***t! From $1200 down to $250 and 15 degrees warmer even, those are some magic pellets!
I will say when we used 2 - 220V electric heaters it ran up the electric bill to $1400 one month (averaged $700) we switched to pellets and that dropped to about 1 ton per month sometimes 5 weeks sometimes 3 weeks. I only have a 40x40 house - single floor on a slab... so having a huge multi-floor farm house - yeah I would agree with that savings.

She uses a ton every 4 to 6 weeks. What you're not recognizing is that there are many variables regarding how much pellets one person will use versus another. She lives in an old yet updated and insulated house with an old inefficient pig of an oil furnace which also heats her hot water. So yes, a ton a month instead of 100 gallons of fuel oil every 7 to 10 days. Thus far this winter she has used 200 gallons of fuel oil, some of which was for hot water. For her there is a substantial savings, for others, maybe not so much.

Also, our pellets here are $279 to $300/ton.
We had an old steam boiler in a victorian house and was pissing through $800 of oil every 3 weeks.... pellets stoves would have been better but this was in 2003/2004 and I didnt have them then. Pellets can really save of oil - especially if you are close to the mills. Pellets here at the mill can cost $210 ton - I dont use them but others do.

I've gone through about 3.5 tons so far this year. the most I burned in one month was 1 ton in 30 days.
