5" pellet stove chimney liner - for wood stove?

Hello all,
I'm new to Hearth.com and wood stoves. We have run our Breckwell pellet stove for 4 years in our 1700s fireflace with a 5" liner. We would like to install a wood burning stove in place of the Breckwell. I'd rather not pay the $1000 to pull out the old liner and intall a new 6" liner. Ideas?
 
Welcome. I would have to say "maybe", but most likely not unless this is a stainless steel liner and this is a very tall chimney. Usually you want to match the liner size to the stove flue collar size.

Many times the liners are the same but the size would probably be a problem.
 
5" liner on a pellet stove? I thought they ran on smaller diameter?

Yes, typically they are 3-4". I was wondering why the big pipe too. Or perhaps it is 4"? In which case it's a definite no go.
 
Might be a good idea to check with the stove manufacture and the liner manufacture. The wood stove is probably going to have a 6" exhaust and I dont think its ever a good idea to reduce.
 
I was running mine on a 5.5" liner until I pulled it a couple weeks ago and ran 4" up the chimney. The manual specifies it can vent through up to 6" diameter flue on my unit. It however was running like crap, and I'm hoping it was the liner but hard to tell yet for sure.
