Ecoteck Elena Flame Trap : disintegrating metal

I am on my fourth season burning my Ecoteck / Ravelli Elena, about 3 tons per year. This year I noticed that the removable stainless steel flame-trap plate, at the top of the firebox, seems to be flaking apart and warping.

Never had this issue till this year, when I started burning this seasons Stove Chow. Maybe related to the Stove Chow, as I first started with Chows, burnt about a ton, noticed flaking, and then I bought and burnt about 20 bags of Timber Heats, which did not seem to cause any further degradation of the flame trap. Then, recently, when I ran out of the Timber Heats, I started burning the remaining bags of Chows, and the flaking started again.....weird.

I ordered a new flame trap from North Forge Heating......I guess this is an eventual consumable item, like the burn-pot and the ignitor.

Anybody else have a similar issue?
 
Nope, but don't burn that much or hard
 
I have had bubbling and paint peeling off the flame trap. I'm not sure the trap is stainless though ... just thought it was heavy gauge steel. Are you sure it is chunks of metal not just carbon build-up flaking off? Cleaned up and painted mine again but it doesn't last very long even using VHT Flame Proof paint.

It is large flakes of the steel, not just carbon flakes.

I got a new flame trap from North Forge Heating, it was $18. It is not stainless steel, just "regular" steel.

I also bought a new burn-pot, which is stainless, $90. My original burn-pot is beginning to crack on the bottom.

And got a spare ignitor too, $60.

Two seasons with Ravelli Monica stove and found my flame trap just like yours. Called dealer and ordered new one, Took 3months to get. Took to local metal shop I deal with for work and he made me two out of SS. No problems now.

You need to order your parts direct from the US Ravelli/Ecoteck parts distributor, North Forge Heating in Annesville PA (talk to Barry). I had my new parts in less than a week. I think the price of these parts is reasonable.
