Buck 91 not cutting it.

Always go by the catalytic probe temps, I have a thermocouple on my liner just so I can see from across the room if I need to increase/decrease the air on mine or reload, I know that if my exhaust temp is about 400 I need to decrease the air and if it is around 180 I need to reload, but I always double check my probe before doing so.

Don't pay much mind to the magnetic thermometers.

I have a Magnetic thermo stuck to the door on my old Buck 27000, it is made to be stuck on the Pipe. Just two days ago I was fooling with my IR gun and noticed that the mag thermometer on the stove door is very accurate, also the Flue pipe temps were 1/2 of what the doors are. I figured if I had door temps of 400* ish I'd have pipe temps of 500-600, Not so, pipe is reading less than firebox... Normal??

That's good; You're not sending a bunch of heat up the flue.

I am burning with the 91 in a similar sized home. I used rock wool to seal of the chimney and currently heating the whole house with outside temps 25-10f. Burn times are about 10-13 hours. The insert is a beast and will perform with dry wood. The best place for a magnetic thermo is above a side bay window. That gives me an accurate read. Good luck!

I'd agree your mag thermometer is off. When I'm cruising at 1500 cat temp I'm pretty well locked on 450-500. Checked it last year with an IR and it was pretty close. Your cat temp is your best friend to know how your stove is operating.

Glad to see you are getting your temps up. What is different from when you first posted?
