Feeling the Heat

Hey Guys been awhile, Im having issues with my Breckwell P28fs. I jumped the wires for the vac switch as I suspected it was bad,the stoves starts up feeds ,runs but im not getting enough combustion into the burnpot.

I have oak with no clogs of any kind.So any help in detail is much appreciated!

Id say the vacuum switch was telling you something. Did you check exhaust pathways as well? Not familair with that stove, so just spit-balling.....

combustion fan is running, clean and stove vac'd out.pipe clean as well all new gaskets.

Probably decade past due for a new fan motor assembly:(

well im not gonna say your wrong..but they are running great....these are ebm fans top of line

They have sealed bearings. Our Bixby has the EBM for room fan, and the Ecoteck uses the same for the exhaust fan. Pretty easy to change out. Just don't waste your time going cheap on the bearings and have to do the job again. Think I spent $16 on a pair, Japanese. Have to do the Hestia as they are sounding a bit rough but only about a month to go:) I hope. So maybe 30 hours of time to go to heat the shop.
Only other thing is have you pulled the fan out and seen if there may be a missing fin.

The fan are in great shape, run quiet i will remove the combo fan and make sure everything is clean.....btw anyone know what size fuse is used in the old analog p28 control board? What was in there was a D1A250vac bussman. So i went to the shack and bought some but they keep blowing.....the filament in the original was much thicker than the ones i just got from the shack.

You likely need a slo-blo fuse. AGC, GGC are fast acting. GDC GDL are slow blow. Protect from minor surges or motor inrush on startup

thanks thats what i was thinking...my confusion is that all i see for breckwell are 5amp and 6.3a......so why was mine a 1a...?

Are you the only owner? A "Technician" ever have to wrench on it? If it was factory 1A than thats what Id stick with. Ive tossed in a 5amp control fuse on a Carrier 50TM RTU more than once, when its supposed to have a 3A....

I looked at a wiring diagram for the P28fs, your motors have capacitors. Should that fuse be protecting the same circuit that is exposed to the motors current, than bad capacitor, or one getting weak will overdraw at start-up. If the fuse is purely for control board, then isolation relays should be in place and board will never see motor current-which is how I would build it..... but???

Today I picked up fuses. I installed a 1a slow blow. Working fine now. Tomorrow the rest of my switches come in. I'm gonna change them all and vac the hell out of the stove

Update*************************************installed new hi temp switch, completely cleaned combustion blower out, combustion housing was already clean. still getting lousy burn ,not enough combustion. I will now replace low temp/auger thermodisk and blower thermodisk. these are the last 2 that havent been changed yet. I will post after changing and running.

ok further testing shows i have 110v from white wire to air switch but only 2.7v to grey wire of air switch.........thoughts????????/

is there a way to test rpms of blower, see if it is at 3000 rpm

Optical tach. Lot of small engine shops use them to tune chainsaws etc. Amazon has several and less than $20

thx bio

ok received my optical tach today. Combustion blower running at 3041rpm's so that is perfect!

Well something is plugged or leaking somewhere. Talking about fans etc got our Bixby to start screaming once in a while so the bearings are due. Hope it can make it four days. Next major warmup.

definitely no plugs so has to be air leakage....grrrrr

Check this out?

http://www.hearthtools.com/parts/Breckwell_help.htm

Just a quick peek at 92-97 diagram shows airswitch in series with Hi limit. To the Auger motor, so if your feeding pellets, id say switch is good. Does switch have more than two terminals? If so, one is NC the other NO, ( Closed/Open ).

Thanks for the link but i had already been using rod's troubleshooting help. since the combo runs full speed regardless of control board setting selected it has to be gaskets...door gaskets is correct and new, ashpan gasket is what i found called for 1/16 x 3/4 x 5.6 ft....and new.but im gonna install 1/8 x 3/4 see if that helps.i ordered combo to housing gasket, now need to order combo housing to stove gasket.

this all just happened like over night, was working great to chit overnight.
thx everyone for your help ,much appreciated

matt.........any other thoughts chime in!
