Just picked up 3 tons of Forest Fuel pellets for 300.00 . Is this a good deal, I was reading that some people did not like them, but for 2.00 a bag I could not pass on them. What do you think.. Would you have bought them for that price????

"Premium" refers to a standard set forth by the Pellet Fuels Institute. It has to do with the amount of ash content, size etc. of pellets. To be considered Premium pellets the manufacturer has to meet these standards.
Mr. Whitfield, that is one heck of a buy. Honestly I think that any pellets that are "premium" pellets are decent. I've noticed that pellets are almost like beer, everyone has their favorite. Mine are Heartland pellets and Labatt Blue.

I know what you mean Zeta, I have not tried pelletsales yet as I found out
about them after I already purchased my supply for this winter.
They do seem to be a lot cheaper than the locals around here.
I got my pellets in August at a very good price, but plan to shop around even
earlier next year.

Forest Fuel are the worst. Take them back. You didn't get a deal. Just try 1 bag. Lots and lots and lots of ash, sizing of pellets is terrible, dirties up window with just 1 bag. Lots of smoke, poor heat.
I used one bag last night, I normally use Blazer Brand (Home Depot ). Yes I noticed a like more ash, but the heat was find. I will check the stove tonight, but for the price I can live with

I purchased 5 bags from the local Lowes here in Portland, OR. I returned 4 bags to Lowes. But I paid $4.19 per bag, so they were not a bargain. The clerk told me they had several complaints, maybe that is why they lowered the price.
They have the Bear Mountain Label, which I've heard good things about, so I assumed they were good pellets. The one bag I burned had so many clickers that I had to clean the burn pot 3 times just to burn the one bag. All of the bags had small holes and the pellets had a strange odor, so maybe they picked up some moisture?
I sent email to the local Bear Mountain office here in Oregon to ask what the deal was? They replied that during last years shortage they relabeled pellets from Canada (to "help out their customer"). They said they were pine pellets. So these pellets are left overs from last season, maybe the quality depends on how well they have been stored for the past several months?

FYI, Bear Mountain also wrote in their email that the Forest Fuel pellets provided 8200 BTUs, compared to the 8600 BTUs provided by Bear Mountain's "Premium Plus" 100% Douglas Fir pellets.

They sound closer to a standard brand pellet than premium. Some stoves will burn them ok, others will not. All will get more clinkers and ash. If your stove handles them ok and you don't feel like the cleaning load is a burden, enjoy the cheap heat.

I think the person who sold me the pellet did not like them and did not want to return them. I know they got them at Lowes, I call Lowes, talked to a store manager, They gave me a store credit. They had two brands 1. Firemaster from B.C. Canada 2. Green Tree from AZ. Which one should I buy, the sale person in the store said the Firemaster was a better pellet. I need everyones help on this one which brand should I buy with my store credit...

I've burned the firemaster pellets.....they burned fine.....nothing noticeable.
Forest Fuel also burned fine when I burned it last year.........
I would just burn the Forest Fuel unless they are going to trade you bag for bag or your stove has a problem with it.

They are giving me a credit price of 4.38 per bag, this price was based on the ton price. Firemaster is 4.31 per bag in the ton price, 4.78 per bag. I'm making 7 cents per bag. .07 x 150 = 10.50 . It's alot of work, I picked up two truck loads. I stored 75 bags in the garage, Had to reload the truck and drive to Lowes. The deal I made with the manager was I had to stack them on a pallet. One pallet 50 bags, one pallet 25. So when I'm all done I will have loaded and unloaded 675 bag... Was it worth it, I think so, I will not have to buy pellets for the next 2 years. I use 2 tons a winter... I had bought 3 ton from HD WOW Blazers, so now I have 6 tons.
