well ran out of pellets and needed about 10 bags to make it to the forecasted temp increase. naturally there are no pellets to be found, except by the ton, so I bought 6 bags of equine pellet bedding, pine, and they burn really good. if I was going to be here next winter I would buy a ton based on what I have seen so far. same price as somersets around here.

So, what are you saying???

No what is he saying really? Is he moving to warmer climates? Is he going to take a new job in a different country where TSC doesn't have representation. Is he going "away" on "vacation" for a few years to life?

He's not gonna be here next year. Obviously, he's dying.

:p:p:p:p:p

Or maybe just moving to St. Croix. He's much smarter than the rest of us. brrrrrrrrrr. Is winter over yet?

I was surprised by them also. They are more then pellets around here though.

Dah ! He's saying when everyone is trying to push grass seed and gas grills, that equine pellets will work to keep our homes warm !

If you think about it, wood pellets aren't being ordered so supply will quickly be exhausted but horsey folks need bedding pellets year round. Just something to have in your back pocket when all else fails. FWIW, the equine pellets burned better with less ash and clinkers than some of them"real" pellets I tried this year and they had the best pine fragrance of any pellet I used.

Moving to St Croix USVI, 78-88 year round, no need for heat. View from the deck

Burn hot and clean, always available and I am sure if you go in and buy a ton they would discount them. If you do not tell them they wont gouge you when its cold, not realizing you heat with them. cold need heating pellets, pay a premium. Horse bedding available year round nothing special.

I've been trying them and they burn just fine with good heat but extremely ashy. Like 3X the ash of Somersets.

unless you got the run of Somersets I got this year. Called Somersets to inquire why and was told, When we run hickory flooring the pellets are very ashy but still within premium specs. so for me the pine was less ashy this time. In previous years the Somersets were so clean the ash pan could of went a month before emptying.

I haven’t tried many different pellets, first season burner, but the three I've tried have been all pretty close to the same. I'd heard on here softwoods give much less ash so I was expecting the ash of these pine pellets to be low, not many times greater. No biggie really, just opposite what I expected. My ash pan could go a couple weeks before and not be full, now a week and its overflowing and filling in all the gaps around the stove and piling up a few inches high across the bottom of the glass. But for the price per btu of these I don't mind cleaning it out more frequently.

Interesting observations. I've been pretty happy with the ash levels of the bedding pellets. Last year's somersets were very ashy for me, so ashy in fact that I bought the bedding pellets for my SCF 050 furnace because the Sets were just too ashy for it. My CPM handled the Sets fine, but I had to clean pretty often. The bedding pellets had easily 1/2 or less the ash that the Sets did.

me too. Been burning Somersets for as long as I've had a pellet stove. These were the worst ever. Still a good pellet but they were ashy and didnt seem to throw the heat they normally do. I was really fed up with the quality of the bag tho year. They kept splitting open when stacking. Had to handle them like a carton of eggs to keep them from blowing out several bags weren't even sealed completely on the side seam and pellets were everywhere. I dropped one bag from waist level and the top seam split wide open throwing pellets everywhere. I was pretty fed up. I'm beginning to think they must be importing from china.

oh, I meant the bags...lol. Didnt know they made pellets in china.

ill get some pics. Its not like I'm tossing them from the roof top or anything.

I think the handi wrap I use to wrap my sandwiches for work seem heavier :)

I noticed the same thing with the bags, thought it was me being rough, guess not. I would pick them up and my fingers would go thru the bag

yeh I had that happen several times too. They must really be making a huge profit this year. $100 a ton more then last year and skimping on plastic.

Once bitten twice shy. I'm going to wood for primary heat next year. I'm filling up the propane tank for the first time in 7 or 8 years. They will be lucky if I buy half a ton of pellets next year. If i do it will probably be equine because they really did throw more heat then my Somersets. Take that pellet industry....lol. You wont be getting $1800 out of me next year. I sure hope others follow and leave them falling on their ass next year.
