I can't use my fireplace anymore...

But I've finally got an insert! Goodbye drafts!

How the insert looks, can't use it yet, have to finish the extension (next weekend...)

I really appreciated the responses to other posts I made about deciding on a model, best of all this unit is wife approved. Thanks guys... great forums!

Here are just a few - Had it done professionally for insurance purposes.
Old Class A before coming out - significant deterioration... (also buckling / insufficient support)

This is some of the parts and the Excel chimney that went in (insurance wanted Excel) - then an insulated liner to the insert...

Thank you - I plan on framing in the slate, but that's nxt wkd - Just refinished where the new chimney went in.

Let you know how she burns when I get her broken in!

Good question! Masonry exists only up to the ceiling where an anchor plate ties in to the new chimney.

Could only be installed for insurance purposes by a WETT certified pro.

extension done - down to slab, built up with durock - did a picture frame as others have recommended

This may be a nit pick, but I would caulk or otherwise seal the joint between the old brick hearth and the new extension just in case any glowing embers ever find thier way into that crack and touch off the subfloor or dust that will eventually accumulate. Looks sharp though, unlike the rest of us you're probably hoping for at least a little more cold weather.

Thankfully we have had a few instances of cold - enough to warrant using the new unit. Thank you for the advice, I placed some grout in all the little nooks and crannies. Had it O.K.'d for insurance and all I can say is this insert puts out serious heat... TOASTY

On to finding more wood...
