Hello all. I am having a bit of a problem. I have a vista flame insert. I have had problem with smelling smoke in the past. Usually at the start up. I recently replaced the clean out tee with an Icc brand. While doing that i must have tore a small hole in the actual 4" stAinless steel liner. Right where the 3" to 4" meets the liner. There was hardly any play in the liner. So I'm assuming that's how it happened. So I guess my first question I have is there any type of fitting where I could actually increase the length of the liner with a coupling of some sort from the top of the chimney. That way I would have enough play down below to make the connection. I currently just used a bunch of red High temp silicone to patch up the tear. Like I said usually I would just notice some smoke at the start up. Now I get it all the time especially when the blower kicks on. However when the stove is on the higher settings the smell goes away. My wife is very concerned about the smoke smell as we have a newborn. I originally never had a problem smelling smoke until I cleaned the stove for the first time by taking the tee apart. Has never been the same since. Any advice. Thanks

Hope you have smoke and CO detectors in place - keep that little one safe. Personally, I wouldn't burn much until you get the leak found and corrected ...
Almost impossible to see smoke when a INSERT is in place and running unless your able to take a surround off first.
Maybe try some of the hi temp silicone tape that lots of people use. It can be cut and removed from what I've read. You can get it at a big box store such as Lowes. Put it around all the points in the area.

I put a wrap on the joints with metal tape JIC. As to the parts, there are usually short connectors available to most venting types but they may have to be special ordered... What liner brand are you using connected to what brand of connectors? You need consistency as not all venting mates well to others....

Self bonding silicone tape. Found in electrical and plumbing depts. It stretches a lot and that really helps and is about an inch wide. The foil tape can and does leak if there is any crease or wrinkle.

I would go to an automotive supply and see what sheet gasket material they have and cut your own.

From the stove manufacrurer or Woodsmans Parts (on here advertiser) or Northeast Pellet or in a pinch, use red RTV.
Hi thanks for the response. My friend is a mechanic and he gave me a sheet of a gasket material called fel-pro. He said it was flame proof. Here's a pic

The exhaust of your stove should hopefully never go above 600. I don't know what gasket grade you have. If you can find the fire rating and its 600 or better your good to go IMO
Does anyone know if and when I can get a short piece of 4" liner. Just need about 12". My plan is to connect that with a coupler and make a new connection cutting out the damaged piece. Or is it easier/cheaper to just buy a new liner? I see them on chimney liner depot for a reasonable price
