Well is it ?
It's not as cut and dry as that. To me when daytime temps are above freezing and night time dips below freezing consistently or we hit 40's in the day or more and 30's at night or less, then we are entering shoulder season. The weather wizards say that is the trend for the next week starting tomorrow here on Cape Cod. It may or may not be so. In April the stove may start cycling on and off on it's own though.

I can say this much, shoulder season or not we have 3-5 ft of snow to melt in this yard depending on what direction you look out the window to. Somebody in the forums seemed to think it doesn't snow much on Cape Cod, come on down for a visit, don't forget your beach chair and your snow blower..

looks like the temps here in NY are starting to break this upcoming week. at night it will still drop to the low 20's and teens but the days are all above 40. right about average. wednesday should be a much appreciated 50+ degree day. first one in what seems like forever! This winter was a tough one. we saw a few nights -25 without a wind chill. i havent had a car with a frozen gas line in 20+ years. this year we did. It was weird buying dry gas after so long.

With snowblower and plow piles still 15' high looks like next week i'll have a massively flooded yard.

High temp was 38 degrees here today. Going to drop into the teens tonight.

Warm enough to place both stoves on full auto (sjut down after reached temp & held for a while). Warm is relative though - high was 30 today and low is supposed to be single digits. Really prefer to have this weather for at least a couple of weeks so the snow melts slowly, but they are saying 40's next week, so will have a flooded garage at the least - flooded basement at worst.

I would consider 40's in the day a slow melt if it drops back to freezing or near freezing at night. I'll take a good solid week or two of that vs 50's and pouring rain !

I know you guys down the cape just got another 8 in or so.. I hear ya on the slow melt I'm in SE ma taunton area and I have 4 ft of white crap in my yard now.. We need a slow melt.. I already tested my water pumps for the basement cause I know there will be some flooding

If that 51 Farmal has a bucket on the front then I envy you, could have used it this winter !! The snow blower has made it, a bearing slipped in the housing back around the first part of Feb, didn't want to tear it down then as we had more snow coming. Who knew it would be more snow twice a week for the entire month and first week in March. We have a good solid 4' of snow in the back yard that has to melt. I equate that with 4 " on rain, if it melts over a week a two we should be ok. A damp basement I can deal with, not prepared for a flooded basement.

Heat wave!!!!!

I'm cautiously optimistic about the next week's weather. Predictions are for high 30s to mid 40s during the day, but freezing or below every night, with no rain. If that holds true, it'll be a major step in the right direction for avoiding floods.

I concur. Because if we got a few 70 degree days in a row right now, I'm pretty sure I'd be kayaking in my basement.

I wish it had a bucket, but right now it's buried in my barn with a 8 ft snow bank in front of it.. I have a Honda snowblower that is a amazing little machine.. It's Hydrostatic and makes it a breeze to operate.. I have a 900 ft drive way and it takes a hour or so to clear it. Pete Bouchard from channel 7 news was saying last week that next winter should be worse thank this one.. Can't wait yay...

It's elbow season. Have to get in front of the next person looking to snipe the few remaining pellets.

It's been so long since we've had any actual melting. You can see snow even sticking to metal roofs it's been so cold. Having said that, this coming week does seem like a turning point. I can finally see temps hitting 30s during the daytime.

We blew by the days prediction of 40 and are sitting at close to 50:cool:

Shoulder Season Arrived Yesterday!!! YAY.
Looks like I'll end up with about 2 bag's of pellets left.
