Would not he wood type would also have a big influence along with the dry air?
Folks in my area that burn a lot of dry aspen don't see much creosote buildup either.

On the bold.

Are you saying that you can burn the creo off daily in your flue/chimney by having a hot fire once a day.
I just want it too be clear if that is what you're saying.

That's what I'm saying, yes, and I understand you are saying that is not possible. Our stove gets a burn off at least once per day but most days it is two times (morning & evening). My family has done this since 1979 (non-cat mostly). Like I said, over 50 years burning 24/7 between my parents house and ours and never once has either flue seen a chimney sweep. When we were kids, the daily burn off was something my dad stressed as being very important for keeping the flue free of creosote.

I live up in the hills above Puyallup too. My wood just measured 14% but the lawn is full of moss. Humidity is very low right now.

Lol, you jinxed the nice weather. Looked out this morning and it looks real humid. We might have drove past your house yesterday...very beautiful area around here.

Maybe it's time to just agree to disagree, and move on, guys!

Reminds me of the book I have planned to write for years. "How I Won An Argument On The Internet". As soon as I win one I am gonna start writing.

How long have you owned the King? A King in a 1200sq' home getting loaded more than once of day has me scratching my head. How hot are you getting the flue with your "burnoff"?

Fire Brick.... My wife has now broken three of them in the princess ultra. They are all on the left side. I talked to my dealer today and he was trying to sell me the ordinary fire brick like i allready have from my Tractor Supply tube stove. I told him "No, i want the BK bricks". He grumbled and called them. $ 2.45 Each. Ok, thats chump change, get me 10 of them and ill just have extras. He told me that he wouldnt order them until he sold another BK stove so that he wouldn't have to pay the extra shipping. He didn't even offer to order and let me pay the freight..... Morons.

I don't feel like dealing with this dealer anymore, does anyone know of an online dealer or someone else worth buying BK parts through.
I'm from PA too, who's the bad dealer are you talking about, I want to avoid them too.I'm just order BK Sirocco 30 last week, hope it will arrive next week.

Currently 41 degrees and 49% rh outside, 78 and 16% or lower inside. Not humid. A really nice day.

Years ago I worked in a garage . This guy had a car with those deer whistle things lined up on his dash...like 4 of them.
I said to him I believe those have to be on your bumper to work.
He said well, I have never hit a deer since I put them up there.
End of story.

Owned the King since last year and we DO NOT load twice a day. We load once per day (every 24 hrs) and we burn pine. And to make sure we are on the same page, we don't "build" a fire when doing a burn off. We have only lit one fire this season and that was at the end of October. We use the existing fuel (unless evening reload) already in the stove and just turn the thermostat up to high. We let the cat probe get to the upper range...I think about 1700f but I'm not home right now to verify. We have a magnet flue thermometer, placed 5" above the top of the stove (on a single wall reducer). These are not super accurate but good enough to give an idea of what's going on. Flue temp will get up to about 500f I think (again, I'm not home to verify) so inside flue temp might be around 1000f.

I came home from the HPBexpo to a sick little girl. She found a nice place to recover!

Sweet. Hope she gets well soon.

Show her your new belt buckle. I hate....I mean really hate it when little kids get sick. Not much you can do for her but buy her a pony!

It is a sweet buckle!

Mid 40's during the day mid 20's at night, back on the 24 hr schedule. Tomorrow we may even crack the 50* mark! :)

Thirty five below again tonight? Dang it. Glad I have about two cords left. On my last stove, circa Y2k non-cat I would be running out of wood this week.

Finally warming up here!! Wood is lasting a lot longer, and the snow is finally melting!!

I cleaned our chimney once this year. After burning one cord. I got about three-four tablespoons of creosote. A few flakes of shiny black stuff and the rest is mostly black/brown fluffy stuff. I've not cleaned it since then. I figured it should be fine after getting so little out. Wont be long until I give it the end of season cleaning and see how much more I get then I can decide how frequently it needs cleaning. I'm hopeful once a year will be enough.

Not much buildup if it follows the buildup of the first cleaning. I should end up burning about 4 cords. So if it doesn't change much it should be about 16 tablespoons of creosote.

Every load I try to char good for 15-30 minutes then shut it down to what's needed. Inside of the stove stays very clean but I know I get buildup in the chimney, though not a lot.

I'll be cleaning my chimney at least once a year. Better safe than sorry!!

Dang, you still have temps like that!? It was about 60 degrees here yesterday.

I placed an order for two BK Ashford 30's in Midnight Semigloss enamel today. 3 - 4 weeks delivery, which means it might still be cool enough to open some windows and do the break-in fires, before the end of April. Can't wait!

I hope they work out for you! I'm excited to hear your reports/reviews on them. I think you'll be blow away by how controllable the stoves are.

The first burns are very stinky. If you got time to build a small fire with the windows open and fans running, let the fires burn out, change out the air a few times with the fans, close the windows and get the house back to warm with oil before the wife gets home, well, OK.

I would think 24 hours apart would be OK, don't remember what the manual calls for.

happy wife = happy life.

I expect some bitching about the smell, which is fine. It might cause her to forget to yell at me for something else. ;lol

Unfortunately, the times when I am home alone are probably counted in minutes per year.

I do think she'll be much happier with these, in the long run. Having fooled with one running in the shop, I get the impression that, short of remembering to close the bypass damper at a reasonable time, they are far more tolerant of operator error, than any other stove I have seen.

Good luck.
I will be following your posts/comments, as I just might take the plunge in 2016...
