ECO-65 heavy smoke in hopper

While the 'stack effect' theory is being pointed to as the cause, there are a lot of other more reasonable questions that need to be addressed. That stove is capable of 65,000 btu's, which is a brute! You're asking 8 archaic technology round tubes (just like my Quad's) to extract that heat. Reading your manual, you can actually set the convection blower to less than maximum speed while putting out those 65,000 btu's and then rely on a heat sensor (snap disk) to kick the fan to max until it brings the temperature back down. That just begs for over heating and warping if the snap disk is faulty or slow to react. That's crazy. Fan speed should be at max when running at max feed rate, period IMHO.
Nothing has been said about your exhaust set up. Please describe it including number of 90's. I know you said it was 'inspected' by a 'certified' inspector but .....
Have you ever pulled the combustion blower and inspected it? How about all the ducting inside the stove with the trap doors/inspection plates. It seems like there's plenty of places for soot buildup.
Have you ever pulled the convection blower to see if it's clogged with dust/fuzz/pet hair?
Having 3 stoves warp sure points to a problem.

I'll have to play with my Eco-65 when I get home to confirm, but I don't believe you can adjust the fan speed when it's on maximum feed rate. In the same regard, when the stove is on minimum feed rate you can not have the fan running on max speed.
 
Just wanted to make sure the easy wasn't overlooked.... Warping doors - dollar bill test? What other appliances are in the same general location. Recall one member installed air exchanger due to radon and then his stove had air issues. Gauge is a good recommendation and should help diagnose issues...

The manual on the website says it's just as I stated.
 
You can change any fan speed and feed settings if you put the stove into a special programming mode, not disclosed in the manual due to improper settings can be dangerous. I would start with the gauge and then start with more venting in the room or a forced air OAK, which really can;t hurt anything except bring too much cold air into the house. The older stove uses the hybrid air intake, which mixes room air and outiside air into the stove, you would have no way to overfire it unless your pressurizing the whole room to extremes..
 
Tks gang, ok I got myself a GE Druck705 Digital Pressure Indicator. I do not have the instructions but there is a "+" and a "-" input on it. I left the + input free and connecte the - input to the stove, I am reading about 0.308 "H2O

This is with the stove running about 1 hour or so? Looks not too bad. Now try it with the window open in the room. I run anywhere between .3-.4
 
Now close the OAK in the stove for a few min and re measure. OPen it back up and go to the window and put the hose from the meter outside with the window slid shut as much as possible, keep your hose connections the same way. If you can tape up the window gap it would be mroe accurate. If your pressure is much higher then your stove reading then the smoke/flame would be going backward up the hopper.

The manual on the website is for the old model - not the current model that I have. There were many changes.
All three of yours were the new model? Did you try to lower the blower while on high?
