From what I see, I think theres some sort of fan on the lower side (based on there being a plug in one of the pictures) and then it has 3 legs to support the pipe over the fire. Basically a heat exchanger. I guess it could work, but probably not very well and certainly not safely.

It has been on craligslist for awhile now. Started out at $120 and is down to $50 now. Says he bought an insert and just wants to recover the cost of material for the this heating marvel hybrid inbred insert.
