Just wanted to confirm this is what I think it is....I usually burn at a 6 - 8 / 2-8-1. This keeps the fire really even and strong. Since the weather is warming up I have backed the feed down a bit. It seems like the flame has started to pulse from when the pellets drop into the burn pot. Is this because my settings are still at 2-8-1? I just switched it to a 4-4-1 to see if it made any difference. Does everyone need to adjust their air level and feed rate when backing down their temperatures?
 
by pulsing do you mean the flames go out, it smolders and then the flame re-lights? or is there a flame all the time but it just goes up and down?

If you are getting to a smoldering state, you really need to play with the air/feed rate to make it so that even on the lowest setting, the flame never dies. Smoldering is the dirtiest burn you can get.

I keep mine adjusted so that it burns nicely on 1/1 and then the other settings just increase the flame and heat output. I need to re adjust usually if i change brands of pellets (different size etc)

The air/feed rate doesnt do much on that stove except at the lowest burn settings.
 
I have found that I need to play with my feed rates to get the lower settings to burn correctly when I change pellet brands (as Dr. Faustus points out.) On the lower settings I do find that the flame height will be much more variable than on the high settings, this is normal as far as I can tell, but having the flame go completely out should be avoided.
