Just had a tree cut down that was hanging over the house. I was hoping it would be Red Oak but the grain is looking like Poplar to me but I'm still learning. Maybe White Oak?

Sorry the pics aren't that great, sun is setting was losing the light. Thanks

Red oak. Yup!
 
I think it is Black Oak. Note the orange layer under the bark.
 
Need better pictures. Take from 3 -4 feet away.

If I could get a whiff of the fresh split i would know in a heartbeat . Bark looks like Northern Red Oak though .
 
Just smell it, then you'll know
