worth buying ?

hi guys math quiz time :rolleyes: found end of logs for sale between 16 &20 inches wide 20 inch long 10 bucks a piece.a face cord here is 4 x 8 x 16 at a 100$ question is is it worth it to buy the ends and split them or just get my 15 face cords ? have at it ;)
 
It doesn't sound to me like you'd be getting ahead at that price for the rounds.
 
didn't seem right to me either ,but good to get other opinions seems like alot of work for not much gain thanxs

You'd be averaging 3 cu.ft. per round, and with cord wood usually stacking around 85 cu.ft. of solid wood per cord, you'd be at $280 per cord. Not a deal.

I didn't hear anybody ask. Is that $100 cdn, and if so, what's the current conversion, eh?
 
1 Canadian dolllar equals .80 US (just edited this, wrote it backwards the first time)

Regardless, as Joful pointed out, the price per round will virtually equal his split price.

Unless he was going from junk split wood to ultra-primo hardwood in round form, it just doesn't seem like a good deal.
 
If you can't burn 20s it is an even worse deal. Just ask Joful ;-)

$10 for a 20 inch long butt end??? No way, the whole tree was probably only worth $15. Stumpage price for hardwood in Maine is between $15-20/cord and you're not getting a cord out of that one tree.
 
I can't speak for anyone but me, but with the amount of wood I went through last year, if I bought wood, I'd be better off using propane.

Man, if I had a market for 20" diameter hardwood rounds, 20" long, at ten bucks APIECE? I'd quit my job and sell those all day long. That's insane. Might as well go buy your firewood at the convenience stores, the kiln-dried stuff in the little plastic or mesh bags.

On the flip side, if someone were to offer me a 20" diameter hardwood butt log that was 20 FEET long, I'd probably pay more than that per cubic foot for the right species.
 
Not a deal. You're doing all the work except for initial cut to 20 inches. Sounds expensive.
