I know, it has been dry here. Fortunately you Michiganians have the lake effect to generate deep drifts. I had to drive up to the UP last month to get some decent skiing in -- stayed in Munising, where driving was an adventure because the snowbanks obstructed the view at every intersection. I drove by one that had half a bumper cover sticking out of it.

Beautiful area, though, with or without snow.

Bet that was an interesting (white knuckle) trip from Wisconsin to Munising (via the upper). I like being a troll. I only go to the UP in the fall to hunt or the summer to adv camp. Snow don't excite me, neither do snowmobiles. I do like smoked fish though.

Mind over matter...lol we just bought kayaks (should be in next week) we also took a nice stroll to a few local river spots to check the water flows, sure we had to walk through 6" of snow and slop but the river was mostly ice free, spring is here lol, saw a few trout fisherman in NY state (open season there)

Ohhhh... Saw a crime then lol, we open up April 4th in jersey, can't wait

On the bright side if our hay grows it should be easier getting it in with a drought. Hopefully we will get rain

Winter will end March 21st......2016.

I would suggest you find an insulation contractor for next year before you go bankrupt...How big is the house?
3000 sg.ft. VERY well insulated on one side, above average on the other. Basically two, two story houses joined by a foyer, 2nd stories not connected. It's been brutal this winter. Right now the temp is 16 with a 20mph wind. Should be around 5* by morning. Yay. Used propane in one half for a while because I refused to pay $350 a ton for pellets.

Oh, its a big place then. I can only suggest you get a wood furnace then and stock pile lots of wood.. this would reduce your propane and pellet habits... Or option 2, multiple split system heat pumps fed from solar power/ grid tie to reduce your bills.

Last 2 weeks were nice, 50 degree days and 30 at nite. This morning it was 45 degrees and by mid afternoon it was 25 degrees with 5 inches of wet snow on the ground.
Guess spring wasn't quite here yet.

4F this morning (right now)
i don't mind this. but it's how long it stays cool into may/june that really puts me over the top as far as yearly consumption.
last year i still burned a bit in june.

Just cracked open ton #11. Plus have used 120 gallons of propane. And it's snowing. I give up.

Wow, your have gone through 11 tons this season ?? Thats nuts ..

  1. Burned a full bag today. I'm officially pi$$ed. The culvert at the end of the driveway is frozen and the ditch is overflowing turning the end of my driveway into a vast glacier with a flowing stream under the surface. It's magical. The road agent went after it with a backhoe and made it worse. The flow is eating away the shoulder on the down hill side.Just an awesome mini waterfall with a lovely ice covering. I think the rain on Wednesday will be very special. To put this in context, the grass is usually greening up with little or no snow cover in this area. There is more than a foot on the lawn and significantly more south of here.

I thought (wrongly), I'd have a full tom left over. I'm down to 25 bags left and looks like those will get consumed too. I'm chugging away here. Just broke freezing about an hour ago.

Talked to my nephew in Joilet, Illinois last night.... They got 5 inches yesterday...snow.

Was about 10 here yesterday and will be about the same tonight.

The weather guy is saying it will warm later in the week before getting colder again over the weekend.

Warm now being defined as only 15 degrees below normal for this time of year.

I am thinking we will also burn another ton ,,,,, and I thought I was beginning to build inventory for next year with the ton I purchased last week.

I may fire up the wood stove tonight ,,, Still three cord by the syrup shed and will not need it all for boiling.

The syrup started out good here and then it got cold and that was it. I usually boil on the propane fish cooker in a big pot. I don;'t have enough to make even a pint this year...oh well. I should have honey this summer. We have 15 hives.

Not looking good pellet wise, When I'm done, I'll fire up the wood stove in the basement.

Send me an address and I'll send you a jug full when the boiling is done.

We usually stop at 12 - 15 gallons and give away most. Couple gallon lasts us a year.

I think we'll get less this year though BUT I tapped a few extra trees so maybe not. The run was great last weekend, dribbles since then.

Our local TSC just received the Kraft Family Pellets. Guess all their quality went into the Pats this year.

PM sent....
