So, we did some hand-me-down clothes exchange with my sister for the kids. We exchanged a couple bags of clothes. First thing I noticed is that Sis uses way too much fabric softener. Really overpowering smell, but I was too polite to mention anything.

She later tells me her kids said their bag of clothes "smells like cousin Will's house." And she agreed. She said it "smells like wood." I figured she meant smoke, I have had some trouble mastering the draft in the Oslo and smoked up the house several times, setting off the fire alarm at least twice. But no, she said it actually smelled like wood paneling, not smoke. Don't know if she's being polite, but apparently our new way of life here has created a characteristic scent. Has anyone else had this happen?

I was on call one weekend and had the laptop and case in the living room all weekend. On Monday someone walked past my desk and said "I smell wood smoke" - took a few minutes then I realized it was the laptop case. She also has a wood stove. I don't notice it - guess I got used to it.

Our neighbors kid stinks like smoke. Feel bad for him.

People always tell me I smell like barbecue. Anybody that comes over takes a deep breath and asks what is cooking or what smells so good. We thought it was a little strange the first time, but soon got used to it. It must be one of the perks of having a cook stove. :)

I have known a lot of people who have a "characteristic scent". They just need a good shower at least once a week!!;lol

Since she said it smells like "wood" (not smoke).... do you store any splits inside the house (basement)?

I know I can smell my inside stash of wood (even seasoned) way more than I notice any smoke odor.

From time to time when the outside air pressure/temp is odd, I get some smoke spillage into the room on start-up. I just turn on the HEPA filter and it clears up.
Our clothes don't "stink". As far as I can tell anyway.;)

Hopefully the clothes smell more like cherry wood and not red oak.

Haha this is fun. I think the cherry smells a little astringent. The red oak just smells like red wine to me since the wine we drink is aged in oak barrels. All about associations I guess...

Barrels are made from white oak. Just sayin'.

By the time it sits around for a few years, my firewood doesn't smell like much of anything. Maybe if a split down a big one, I can smell it if I hold it close.

Many years ago when we had a smoke dragon and didnt have the best burning practices people used to say our house smelled a bit like smoke. Since Ive changed my stove and burning practices my friends say the only way they can tell we are burning when they walk in the house is because of the heat. It would be interesting for you to quiz them a bit more to see if its a wood smell or a smoke smell.

My wife is yankee candle crazy, so hard to smell anything over the candles, tart melters, and oil burners going almost 24/7.

As for myself I am pretty sure the old spice deodorant and cologne cover up any wood smell.

Then add in the beard oils blends my wife makes me with like sandlewood, eucalyptus, tea tree, and orange peel and you would never smell anything other than a smattering of scents.

Our house usually smells of cooking. Probably our clothes do too. We like to cook and are not afraid of seasoning.

anything has to smell better then the gas I just passed.

People tell me all the time how they can't smell any wood stove smell in the house. But I know we get an occasional smell from a window or door open.

A guy I work with also works at Yankee candle. He walks in the room and you immediately smell that weird candle smell. I don't mind the occasional candle at home, but I don't know how the people that work there can stand it.

Our pharmacy smells like an old lady's boudoir because of all those candles for sale. I gag every time I go in there for a prescription.
