My Ames "Neverleak" hose reel developed a major leak  inside. Yes, the really call this model "Neverleak".

I tried to remove the inner water passageway but could not get my hose connections to unthread even when using channel locks. Eventually the plastic mounting broke while the aluminum water passageway still had a hold of my hose ends! I dragged the hose into the garage, mounted it up in a vice, and eventually broke them free. Apparently the aluminum housing corroded with the brass (?) hose ends. What can I apply next time to stop the corrosion?

Wow, Ames, you've had that reel for a while. ;lol

I usually use "never seize" can get it in a tube or a tub at just about any hardware store. I use it on anything I don't want to break when I go to take it apart again, especially when dealing with different metals. Learned about it years ago when my buddy showed me how easy his spark plugs came back out, I've had a running tube ever since.

Most recent use were the dog house and top bolts on the Jotul Oslo. I was sure I was going to snap one taking them out, next time should be a lot easier.

Ah. There's an "Ames" brand. I wasn't aware of this and thought it was a reference to a hose reel bought at an Ames store. Ames stores went out of business around here 10 +/- years ago.

+1 Teflon tape or "pipe dope"
I wouldn't put an anti-seize compound on a water connection

Ames have a lifetime guarntee. Email them with the model # and the parts you and they will send them.

I had a whole new unit sent to me. I guess I'll try teflon tape.
